sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2956542&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlinesI don't know if this is a good thing or it is a stupid move by the Raiders. Now they have security with the whole Jamarcus Russell situation. The thing is, if they knew they wanted to pursue a guy like Culpepper, wouldn't it have been a better move to draft Calvin Johnson? I feel this signing may put extra pressure on Russell in his rookie year. Although, it could be good for him to have the veteran guidance of Culpepper.

They obviously didn't know Daunte would just fall into their laps on draft day... Russell isn't going to start this season anyways, so Daunte's experience is only going to help him out. For the price they got him, I would say that it's worth trying him out and see if he can warm up the offense for him Jamarcus next season...

I think it was a good move, but I didn't understand why they only signed him for a year. Unless they feel Russell only needs a year on the bench before he takes over.

they signed him for one year because if he plays like crap they won't have to keep paying him to sit on the bench next year

Good choice for both sides. Oakland provides the best opportunity for Culpepper to have a shot at making some starts, while the Raiders could use the depth with McCown and a rookie quarterback in a contract dispute.
