He probably could have went this year. What happened was that the Lions probably wanted the roster spot freed up and knew he wouldn't see the field much. The Eagles did it last year. Chris Gocong and Jeremy Bloom could have played last year easily but decided to throw them both on the IR to give them the opportunity to learn. Bloom was returning to football after two years of skiing and Gocong was moving to a new position. I can totally understand it with the quarterback position. Look at Carson Palmer, didn't play at all his rookie year. Good move here by the Lions.

The difference between Detroit and Philly is that this is a quarterback who can greatly benefit by being able to practice with the team, not a kick returner or linebacker who won't have too much responsibility on the field with the core they have now...
