With the NBA season coming along, I just want to sharpen up my thought process through a good ole string of debates. I'm willing to collaborate with ya'll in having fair discussions which may in effect teach ya one or two new things about pro basketball.
It's simple. The first person who wishes to debate just sets a topic and that's that. We reflect our insight on the issue, and voila. Whoever wins by apparent routing of the other carries on the tradition, so on and so on.

Whoever wins by apparent routing of the other carries on the tradition, so on and so on. I'm up to debate with anybody. First off, the Pistons are too deep and too good, they will repeat this year. If they get by Indiana, they're home free in the East. But can they beat San Antonio or Minnesota? The answer to this is yes. A dominant defensive center can handle Duncan or KG, and our guards completely outplay Tony Parker/Manu Ginobili or Sam Cassell/and whoever else MIN has at guard. Just ask me - friends call me the NBA Swami...I'm like Lee Corso/Kirk Herbstriet in the College Gameday commercials, come before me, ask me a question, and I shall answer. *meditates*

I love those commercials....they are sooo funny. I love it when Corso says "Does a condor rise from its ashes?" And the guys like..."Ahh....don't you mean a....phenix?"

DB, you basically asked "Will the Detroit Pistons repeat?".
As much as I would like to say yes, I'm afraid the answer is no, the Pistons will not repeat but shall come close in the playoffs. Just tonight, Detroit beat up on my Sixers, but only after a lackluster first half. NBA officials will be tightening up on postup fouls which will eliminate any MAJOR advantage on the block that Sheed and Big Ben may have on bigs such as TD, KG, JO, and oh yes, the BIG DADDY - Shaq. This in effect sets up a backcourt to backcourt tempo that Chauncey and Rip just cannot hold together on defense.
In no way am I doubting the Pistons. They are a great team. But in my honest opinion, they will not win the East nor the Finals. However, you can bet your ass that they will give trouble to those that do. Bad boys baby!!!

The Pistons will have ZERO trouble with Miami, because Miami is a two-man team. Essentially it's Dwyane Wade and Shaq. The thing is, the Pistons are a 5-man team...they get production from every starter. Billups = MVP. Rip = Big scorer. Tay = above-average all-around. Sheed = good everything. Big Ben = Defensive monster. I don't know of many other teams that play that way. Add in McDyess, Delfino (he's awesome) and the other role-players, you have one of the best all-around teams in basketball.

Andres Nocioni = money. Bulls win at least 20 games, but ONLY if Ben "Bust?" Gordon steps up and becomes a leader on the court. It's a young team, so I don't expect the world from them. However, I predict a mediocre finish in the lottery with a 25-28 win season.

Did Michael Jordan go to North Carolina? The answer of course is yes. They aren't that bad...Gordon and Deng are quality draft picks. Eddy Curry and Kirk Hinrich ain't too bad either.

One good reason why the Miami Heat are overrated - Shaq. Wade. Rasual Butler. And, others...i don't even know who. I rest my case.

Right, but to say that the Pistons won because they were the best last season is assinine, and the same would apply to this year. Last season came down to a range of wacky events that placed an incapable team against Detroit, who just obliterated them. I'd be curious to see a Phoenix/San Antonio vs. Detroit matchup in the finals. I doubt they would sweep.

Will the Raps make noise in the East?
Yes. Not only are the Raptors no longer undersized (out-rebounded both Detroit and Houston), but they have depth at all positions. Loren Woods is an below-average center if he played in the west, but in the East, he can give you 10 and 10 a night. Vince Carter is mo longer a slefish player, he see's he no longer has to do things on his own, he's playing defence and grabbing rebounds. Rose and Rafer running the point is a good sight to see, Bosh will be one of the best power forwards in the East by the end of the season. No team will out hustle this squad, Sam Mitchell has instilled a work ethic that no other coach has done with the Raps, this team will make some noise.

The Raps will make noise, but it will be that kind muffled by the squeezing of anal muscles in the act of farting. Point is, with Vince as a floor leader, T-Dot has no chance in stirring up the East. Bosh and Woods are good guys to have down low, make no mistake, but that's just a clash of egos up north IMHO, regardless of the two previously mentioned men. You have to have the right head on your shoulders to go anywhere.

VC will lose the attitude this season, begin to play unselfishly and put up 20-7-4 a game numbers. What more can you ask for out of a "team leader", hence the name, remember what i just said, because it will be only the truth my friend.

So demanding a trade, rescinding it, demanding it again, and finally rescinding it sends a good message to you Raptors fans? It will only be a matter of time before he either a) goes down with an injury, or b) b!tches about his situation. It's the way it's been, who is to say it will ever change?

A dominant defensive center can handle Duncan or KG, and our guards completely outplay Tony Parker/Manu Ginobili or Sam Cassell/and whoever else MIN has at guard. Duncan vs Detroit in the last 3 years 2002: 20 pts 15 reb in a 97-85 Spurs win 32 pts 11 reb in a 96-86 Spurs win 2003: 22 pts 11 reb in a 108-76 Spurs win (SA up by 43 at one point) 25 pts 21 reb in a 89-83 Spurs win (SA up by 24 [bench players] at one point) 2004: 17 pts 10 reb in a 85-77 Detroit win 12 pts 13 reb in a 84-75 Spurs win (Duncan kept in check, Manu and Tony, the two lesser guards, took control and pulled away) Yes Detroit did play well vs SA in 2004, and I said all along that Detroit was the ONLY team in 03-04 who would compete with SA, but it's amazing what 0.4 can do to you. Detroit and Phoenix have scared me for the last two years, but SA still has performed greatly against both. They are the only teams that match up well with SA. With that being said.... there is NO big man in the league who can stop TDunc except for KG and no one in the league can stop KG except for TDunc. Wallace has done nothing against the two of them. Yes the Detroit guards are nice and better than most, but no guard tandem in the NBA jump out at me like Tony and Manu do. Remember.... they are in silver and black for the next 7+ years along with Tim. TP is only 22 and the team is reasonably young. They're not going away soon. Throw in Bruce, and you are set for a long ride. I will not bash Detroit, and as I said, they are a great team. There is NO BETTER match up in the nba than Detroit and SA. No two teams are more evenly matched, and both are the top tier with Minnesota. But the main point you have to remember, the ONLY person who can keep Tim in check is himself. He is VERY RARELY caused to have a bad day, and when he does, it's usually related to how turnover prone he is.
