The Atlanta Hawks announced this morning that 28-year old center Jason Collier has passed away after going into cardiac arrest. Really, really sad news.
RIP

For all who are lazy to look at the link. "ATLANTA -- Atlanta Hawks center Jason Collier died Saturday morning, possibly of cardiac arrest, the team said. He was 28.
Hawks spokesman Arthur Triche said no other details immediately were available and did not say where Collier was when he died.
Collier experienced chest pains at his home Friday and his wife performed CPR and called 911, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Hawks players were notified of Collier's death at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning before a scheduled workout was canceled, according to the paper.
The 7-foot, 260-pound Collier, a five-year NBA player, spent his first three seasons with Houston before joining Atlanta in 2003. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in his career.
Collier played for Georgia Tech and was drafted by Milwaukee in the first round, with the 15th pick overall, in the 2000 NBA draft.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report." It sucks I liked him moderatly when I played with the Hawks or watched him play.R.I.P. Jason Collier.

28 year old men don't drop dead from cardiac arrest, regardless of their size. Something else will come out. Thoughts are with the Collier family.

That would explain it
If ESPN 2's ticker gave information like that, I'd feel like less of an idiot

I am stunned. I don't see why these athletes are dying this year and now a b-ball player in the NBA who is actually decent. Wow. God bless his wife and the Collier family.

Really sad... he was a god to me in my Atlanta Hawks dynasty last year when he hit me a game-winning shot, but more importantly, he could have started there. He wasn't a great player or anything, but it truly is sad to see someone get to live their dream as an NBA player, and then only getting this glory for a few years before it all goes away.

Hey Alex, just a question about contracts... (since compared to your NBA knowledge I know nothing.)
Does Colliers contract just like disappear from the Hawks payroll? If so, that'd be anoth 2 million or so stacked up on the cap salary. Dang they need to have a shopping spree, soon.

The Hawks still have to pay it out to Collier's beneficiaries. Something similar happened a few years ago with the Timberwolves, and the deceased player's contract still counted against the salary cap. I don't know what the rules are in the new CBA, but I imagine this is still the case.
