I do think the dress code is a bit extreme, but in the end, dress clothes > throwbacks, shorts, whatever. This is going to become a major distraction, however, and that's my problem with it. We're going to have players protesting by going overboard (i.e. Stephen Jackson and his 1676890 necklaces last night).
Here's an idea - how about printing throwback jerseys on collared shirts?

How is a dress code of jeans and a collared shirt extreme? It's "business casual"...no suits required.

I support the dress code policy 100%.
If some kids have to wear uniforms just to go to school, then why shouldn't these NBA guys not have to dress up. I mean it's not that big of a deal. It's your job, and mostly all jobs have a uniform policy.
It's about time they set these guys straight. I mean, it's not like their saying you have to dress up outside of practices and stuff like that, because they still can wear whatever they want on their own time. If they don't like the dress code, then they can leave, because there are millions of basketball players out there.
Also, I happen to think that suits look way better. The NBA is turning into a rap scene. It's about time they got it looking like a proffesional sport.
Anybody agree?

You won't see Peja Stojakovic slappin' rhymes on dope beats during interviews, so I think he's fine with the policy. As for guys like Iverson, I want to give them time before I judge how I feel about them. Stephen Jackson, will, in due time, learn to respect the policy and/or realize that it isn't as bad as it sounds, and if he just goes out and does his job (and continues to earn the big bucks), dressing up for the cameras will turn out to be benefitial to the league. In conclusion, I'm about 90/10 in favor of the code.

Well, there are already people like Lebron James who agree with the dress code.

That's perfect, because I think that as long as LeBron is happy, Stern's happy. If James can go out and perform to the level that he is expected and help push Cleveland towards the playoffs, all while complying to the dress code, there's no reason for other guys to complain about it. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing affected a few guys' work ethic, but that's life; and I doubt the commisioner is going to reconstruct the policy to make these select few happy.

I have to agree with the guys that agree with the code. I pay absolutely no attention to the pro basketball scene anymore because it just didn't have any class. Now I know I'm not the coolest, hippest guy around, but who the hell decided that wearing a hat to some awkward direction, having tattoos cover your entire arm, flaunting more jewelry than your grandma and mother combined ever wore, and acting like you "aint got no respect for nuthin" should be cool, aught to be shot. I miss the class in the NBA, and I would really like to hear what players like MJ, Magic, Bird, and some of the other greats have to say about, A: where the game was going, and B: if they like the new dress code.

Lebron likes it because he wasn't like Iverson and Jackson before and wore the clothes like those guys did. I'm sure he wasn't wearing a suit (and if he was all the more) but he's a more mature kind of guy.
And of course MJ, Magic, and Bird are going to like the new dress code. They were never permitted to wear a suit, so they could wear anything they wanted, but they were the kind of guys that would always wear suits to press conferences and other things.
I still wish this was never instituted, basically because I haven't seen every single throwback there is out there today, so I get to see some of the lesser-known ones. And Larry Brown in a thorwback= priceless.

Race related? Hell yes, it is.
I'm not one to bring these extremely controversial subjects to the table, but I strongly feel that this policy is indirectly linked to racism. Now, I'm not bashing David Stern for inducting it, because it is needed, it's just that it seems to have came at the wrong time. Case in point - The majority of the brothers at my school dress in baggy clothes and all that jazz (much like Iverson's grunge look), but, being partial to the clean look and all (baggy blue jeans and a blue-striped polo... white Adidas, etc.), I have a ton of black friends that dress that way that aren't at all mad about the policy. If the NBA would have thought of putting this into play years and years ago, like when Kevin McHale and Larry Bird were gracing the courts up in Boston, there wouldn't be much of a problem now. For all we know, we would all still be wearing highwaters. :-\

I think the idea is good but race is an obvious issue. Most of the NBA players are afro-american and most of them are young guns. Do you think fans care if their favorite player(s) where street clothing. I don't think so so I don't see the big deal. I admire Allen Iverson and the way he dresses because he is an example of a man who made it out the hood and found success. Obviously, the veterans will side with Stern but I for one think a dress code is a stupid idea because now the league is viewed as one of superpower, high pro-file egos, and players that lay the smackdown on fans so now these "thugs" are trying to set a new example. I dont like the dress code but I see where stearn is going.

This is retarded, they are all adults and should be allowed to wear whatever they want. I hope AI or someone doesnt follow this rule and gets fined a bunch of money, then see David Stern all mad about it.
