This is retarded, they are all adults and should be allowed to wear whatever they want. I hope AI or someone doesnt follow this rule and gets fined a bunch of money, then see David Stern all mad about it. They also have a job just like many other people in the real world, and when on the job, other adults (and anyone else) ares required to dress appropriately. For some people this may mean suit and tie every day, others it will mean business casual, like what the NBA instituted.

This is retarded, they are all adults and should be allowed to wear whatever they want. I hope AI or someone doesnt follow this rule and gets fined a bunch of money, then see David Stern all mad about it. I hope you can get a job with that kind of attitude outside of a restaurant or fast food place. Even though we are all adults and you're right, we can wear what we want but how far in life do you want to go in life? I believe Stern isn't doing it to 'piss players off' but he would like to represent the NBA in a more professional way. College football players wear suits before and after the game not because of team unity but because those players are representing that University. The university wants to show off how professional and mature these kids are because they go to that university. I guess you all have to understand that being an individual is fine and you can do that at any time you want. If you work for yourself and have your own business, wear whatever you feel will improve your business but if the boss tells you to dress up a bit, he can because he is the BOSS (owner). These players have two choices; except it or get fined (quit). I do hope that AI does try to get away with it so he can be the poster child of this discussion that not even the so called 'best players' in the league can't get away with it. People may think this is a race issue with the chains and everything and you’re probably right just because of the main fact that black people wear the chains. Stern might have made that rule because he has seen the black people wear these things when they aren't playing but I don't think he is acting on it in a racist way. Everyone is racist, you can't argue if your black, white, latino(a) whatever... we all have our assumptions about each race and that is racism but the reason for Stern's choice on removing chains from the dress code is because being professional at the office (game) doesn't mean you wear HEAVY HEAVY jewlery to work and look ugly while watching a game. I know some of you don't understand this concept of acting and looking professional. Some of you are still in high school and even in middle school and you don't have to worry about it but when you're in college or out of college (like myself), you notice that the people who don't want to follow the rules end up working the night shift as a janitor (which isn't a bad job but not something I want to do). I want to work at Microsoft or EA or some other computer company and to do that, I must show them that I am professional, responsible and a hard worker but coming to an interview in a throwback and some chains will not make a good first impression. You can agree with me, you can disagree with me but I feel that my thought on this is hard to argue against. People will argue with me, I know this, but which ones will actually have reason or thought into it. |2uff

i don't support the NBA trying to imply a dress code; i think they took it a little too far: 1. players shouldn't have to wear a coat while on the bench when not playing.... this \/\/ should not violating the dress code 2. i dont see the problem with wearing the a chain AS LONG AS it isnt something too flamboyant THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE THE DRESS CODE SHOULD BE: No Athletic Wear (like basketball shorts, jerseys, sleeveless shirts and t-shirts) Long Sleeve Shirts are OK Collared Shirt, Polo or Sweater Headphones Allowed Headwear Is Fine Chains are ok but nothing huge although i think the hip-hop image is something the NBA should treasure; if you are gonna make a dress code have be a relaxed one

well forget the league because the fans are the one's basically paying for everything. They dont pay to watch players on the sidelines rock over a thousand dollar suit, they want to watch there favorite team on the court do their job and be entertained. I think the majority of fans dont care if their favorite players wear suits.

I'm looking forward to all the arguing/crying by the babies of the NBA. Should make for some good episodes of PTI and Around the Horn.
And yes, it is racist. The white guys in the NBA don't wear the stuff that is outlawed. Well actually there are only like 10 white guys in the NBA, so of course it's aimed at the black players.

After Michael Jordan retired (the first time), the NBA lost A LOT of it's fan base, and they league had to make up that loss somehow, so they started marketing the players considered "hip hop" more, and probably even encouraged it - I remember Stephon Marbury on the Timberwolves when he started his career...he wasn't "Starbury" then, had no tattoos, and had a pretty "clean" look to him. Now he's one of the biggest "hip hop" images of the league. Stern isn't trying to destroy the league's image (since he created that image) and isn't trying to be racist, in my opinion. You have to realize that while the hip hop image appeals to African Americans and African American-run corporations, it's sadly a turn off to some of the advertisers that could give the league the most amount of money. The sad truth is that there aren't many African American-run Fortune 500 companies (the companies/corporations that pull in billions of dollars a year), and the league would be a major beneficiary if it made itself more appealing to the companies headed by fat old white men. On the outside it seems to be racist, but Stern's motives are based on gaining more "cha-ching" than banning "bling bling".

so Tim Duncan, who doesn't own a sport coat, borrowed a jacket from a Spurs PR man (a very tiny man) to conduct his post game interview with the SA media.... sleeves to his elbows, collar on the coat up, and the bottom of the jacket to maybe the bottom of his ribs.....
congrats to a true comedian that the nation hardly ever gets to see in relaxed like that.... if I come across pictures, I'll post them
