lakers record with kobe no shaq- bad lakers record with shaq and kobe- better (3 championships) ENOUGH SAID Wow, did you think of that all by yourself? Of course Shaq and Kobe would dominate. And without Shaq, Kobe and the Lakers are bad, if you compare it to with Shaq. But the main reason the Lakers didn't make the playoffs asides from trading away the most dominant player of his generation was that Kobe missed 16 games (and the team's record was atrocious without him) and that Lamar Odom missed 18. Then factor in that their coach quit on them early in the season, and they had an interim coach for the rest of the year, and asides from Denver, who got one of the top coaches the league has seen as an interim coach, you're not going to do well. All Kobe needs to do is trust his teammates. It's not like this is the 01 Sixers, when Iverson truly was the only one who could score. He has Lamar Odom, a low post threat. He's got some young guys that need some experience so when Kobe does miss 16 games, they still have a chance to win some ball games. If they do get Artest, I think it will help Kobe a lot. Artest is a proven scorer that can put up 20 points on a nightly basis, and not even Kobe can fail to recognise it. You can't count out the Lakers until after the trading deadline really, because we need to see any major moves that could lift the team, and see how much Kobe has matured...

Why would they want to trade for a player who's hurt? I think they'd rather trade for a guy with an expiring contract who can actually contribute in his final contract year. Because they want him for his contract. They don't care about his talent because they are trying to build. He is making 3.04 M this year, and they're trying to free up cap space for the offseason because his deal expires after this year. This has happened before, in the deals of Glenn Robinson and Jamal Mashburn, who is pretty much eternally injured

If they trade Artest for a trashy player just to free up some cap, it means they have entering the rebuilding stage. And why would they rebuild a team that has the chance to go to the Finals with luck on their side? In this LA deal, they would be getting George to free up some space, but Walsh isn't gonna sign on it because he wants his Finals chances to stay high, even through they will dwindle after Ronny leaves.

I dont understand why they are rebuilding either, they could go far into the playoffs if they keep Artest. Maybe they're recoiling after the loss of Reggie Miller, in which there is no reason to

The only reason they're shopping Artest is because he's being a nuisance about all of it... if he showed that he wants to stay, Indy won't trade him... but he isn't doing that, so they really have no choice...

But the trade you offered that included the injured Nene suggests that they would be rebuilding when it's the opposite. There's no way the Pacers take Nene, they still have a good team on their hands.
