Offseason Analysis: Ben Gordon to LA

The Lakers are an interesting study. As well as Smush Parker played this season they aren't convinced he's a long-term answer to group with Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, and Kwame Brown. Why does Gordon fit the Lakers? Because the point guard in the triangle offense doesn't do normal point guard things - he's just one of the guys. The Lakers could plug Gordon into Parker's spot and get a player who handles the ball just as well but is a more reliable scorer.

Now, what about compensation? In all honesty the Lakers don't have a lot of pieces available, especially for a player who is as cheap as Gordon. Chicago can absorb a contract, but LA won't trade Odom for Gordon and he's the only who makes a lot of money they have a chance at. A combination of a minor expiring contract (Brian Cook? Aaron McKie?) along with a first round pick - maybe this year's, maybe next year's - would be a good deal for Chicago, and one the Lakers would probably pull the trigger on.

The Bulls would be retarded to do this, they already have the #2 pick in the upcoming draft, they shouldn't even consider this.

this isn't so far-fetched to be honest, because the Bulls have a growing love-affair with Washington's 2-guard Brandon Roy, according to a local paper here in Illinois and it seems like Bulls managment don't have a particular liking for Gordon, which if the Bulls want Roy they could trade back 2-3 picks back and pick up a second rounder, maybe. Which means with their next pick they could trade for a big or draft a big because apparently it seems like Paxson wants to wait to draft a big man next year considering they trade picks with the Knicks next year as long as the Knicks do worse than the Bulls....
