It's very simple. Kobe Bryant has a a crap load of fans. And the Miami HEat picked up more fans (bandwagoners) after sealing the championship. That's not even mentioning the Kobe-Shaq duel that everybody overhypes.

I could see like Heat vs Mavs or another contender.. but LA is the second largest market in the US so that's the way it is

I'm assuming you didn't watch last year's game or hear what happened, so I'll dismiss you for that... but if you watched the game, and know the story of some of these player's pasts, that's enough as it is to earn a spot on Christmas.
Honestly though, who cares. This game has the same value as the game on February 10th, so why complain about it...

I could see if you were mad because the Texans and the Saints were playing on thanksgiving or something, because football's a tradition on thanksgiving
But basketball and Christmas, i know my family doesn't sit down and watch the big basketball game on Christmas
So, i dont really care who plays

Usually there's a double-header. No such event this year. Grr.. That was one of my annual X-Mas traditions - chill out in front of the tube for 4 hours watching good basketball.

My tradition is eating and playing cards, with some trips to the john every now and then... and of course if any is on, football...

It is smart by the NBA. Sprew made the point with marketing. Bibby proved the point with the fans of Kobe and the Heat. You want to put the most popular teams on a holiday like Christmas so you can get the most viewers.

Yeah and anyway, it will be a good matchup right ?
With Kobe and Wade in the game, it will be good.
