Duncan isn't playing internationally any more since he had some issues with the officiating back in Athens... That might be a media excuse - he declined because he has a baby girl, almost a year old now, and wants to spend time with his family. And I don't blame him... Amy is a hottie. Plus, he's getting a little older and wants the summers to recoop. And a very small part of it is he would rather play for Pop who I believe (don't remember 100%) either turned down the position or was a front runner with Coach K before he was selected.

I'm gonna jump back to the "NBA Champs should play" idea, while it's good, A. with all the international players it might not work, someone brought this up earlier. And B. I don't think the coaches would really like that too much. You really think Pat Riley would be OK with Shaq and his deteriorating body playing game action all summer? Just another chance for an aging veteran to get hurt or wear down. That's a good point about the fact that European players are all over the league right now. Tells you how much I pay attention to the NBA, which isn't a whole lot.

Yeah because a team like Dallas and San Antonio would do horrendous...
I also forgot about the wear and tear aspect of it as well. When you think about it like that, the team is already playing 8 months of regular season, plus a month of pre-season, and now another month of international play, and from there, even a few guys that are on the roster do Summer Leagues and such. That's a little much...

I think we could hope for a starting 5 of, in Beijing:
Ben Wallace Tim Duncan Carmelo Anthony Lebron James Dwayne Wade
Don't count on either big man, if we can land one of two and start then Odom, that would be ok too.

Seriously, I would want this to be the Dream Team ::
CE - Amare Stoudamire PF - Bruce Bowen SF - LeBron James SG - Kobe Bryant PG - Steve Nash
Bench :
Ben Wallace Dwight Howard Luke Ridnour Michael Redd Corey Maggette Kyle Korver Brevin Knight Alonzo Mourning -------------------------
I think that would be a great USA team. You have the scorers in Kobe, Lebron, Corey, and Amare, the stoppers in Mourning, Bowen, Stoudamire, Howard, and Wallace, the rebounders in Howard and Wallace, the shotblockers in Howard and Wallace, and the playmakers in LeBron, Ridnour, Knight, and Nash, and the 3-point shooters in Redd, Korver, Lebron, Kobe, and Corey.
That team would be SICKKKK.

If you're going to start Bruce Bowen, put him at the 3... our rebounding is going to be horrendous when Bowens matched up against their star player and Amare's getting a double box-out...
As for Kobe and LeBron, if both are going to start, I want to make sure that they're played a very conservative game for the most part, LeBron especially. In the Greece game, it got to be too much 1 on 1 in the 4th quarter, LeBron included. I'd like some penetration in the lane every once in a while, but LeBron, Melo, and Wade did a lttile too much of that to set up tough layup shots hoping to draw the fouls than to do a nice little kick out as soon as they take their first couple steps into the lane. Especially when this team finally has shooters, this is going to be their chance for open threes, rather than Melo's famous "there's a guy's arm in my face but if I can just jump a little higher this time maybe I'll get the ball over his hand even though his fingers will be up my nostrils" three point attempts...

Steve Nash isn't American. And Carmelo Anthony is part Puerto Rican. Carmelo Anthony was born in New York City and lives in the United States. Steve Nash was born in South Africa and lived in Canada most of his life. If you can't see the difference I don't know what else to tell you.

If you can't see the difference I don't know what else to tell you. But he has american citizenship, just like Carmelo has Puerto Rican citizenship. In turn, Nash could play for Canada, SA, or USA. Melo could play for USA or PR.

Puerto Rico is part of the freakin' United States! So regardless he's American. But once again...he was born here in the states so he can play for our team here in the states...
1. Nash was born in South Africa 2. Lived/lives in Canada. 3. I'm sure he has citizenship but that doesn't make him able to play for our team...don't know why you would think it would. 4. Where do you get all this information Mr. Basketball Guru?
