Ok The Mavs were playin the Wiz in a game down here at George Mason and since i wasnt doin anything tontie, i bought a cheap ticket to go to the game.
Once i got to the arena, I saw a group of fans standing around in the parking lot and the security with the yellow jackets hanging around. I walk towards the small group of fans and BAM- GILBERT ARENAS IS THERE! I didnt have a Wiz jersey on so I was pissed as I had nothing for him to sign as we walked right next to eachother.
I did talk to him but I was pissed so what did I do.....I ran to my dorm (which was 7 minutes away, grabbed my Gil Arenas jersey, run back) and i was too late- he wasnt there but fans were staggering around in the parking lot. However, Brendan Haywood would park and come out and fans swarmed him. I found it funny that he was even signing Arenas' jerseys.....
So at the game, I had good seats and all. Before tipoff, I was looking around and spotted two hot chicks who were part of the Washingon Wizards event staff. My seat was far away from them but one of the chicks caught my eye and I was like 'oh shit'. The next thing I know, the two chicks walk through the stands, come up to me, and was like "do you play basketball?"
I said yea (I've played all my life but am not too good anymore since i havent played in like a year). They said "do you want to be apart of the shooting contest we're going to hold in the third quarter?" A smile came on my face as I said sure! out of the 7,000 people in attendence, I was picked to go on the court and shoot.
My assignment: In 30 seconds, I had to make 3 freethrows and a 3 pointer from the NBA range. If I did all that, I would win an autographed Arenas jersey. If I hit the freethrows- I get a shirt.
So when they finally came to get me from my seat, people in my section were like "good luck" and all that jazz. Once I got to the floor, I was standing RIGHT NEXT to the Wizards' bench and right next to the dance team. I had to wait a long time before the ocntest began because we needed a team to call a full timeout. But it was cool to stand so close to Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, and DeShawn Stevenson.
I got a fancy introduction when I got on the court and butterflies were floating all in my stomach as I got ready. In the end, I made two freethrows and got a shirt
I know I could of done better.....
After the contest, I got to stay on the sidelines until the end of the third. I also chatted a lot with the two hot chicks and when I finally got back to my section, people were syaing good job and all that.
After the game (Washington won by like 6....Dirk Nowitski and Jason Terry didnt play at all), I stood next to Gilbert Arenas' car and calling my family about what just happened. Gil had to get to his car somehow and I wanted him to sign my jersey before he left lol
After a while, fans gathered next to the Mavs team bus but were pushed back by security. I stood next to the car for a while (Gil has a nice car too) but then I saw fans gathering at a different spot near the Mavs 2 buses. After 10 mintues of waiting- the first Wizard player that came out was Jamison but he couldnt sign nothing because he had his two babies in his hands.
The next player was Haywood but no one cared as all the fans left were chanting for Gilbert. I stood away from the cluster of fans but then once Arenas came out, people went crazy (well, the children were mostly). He would start to sign autographs at the cluster so what did I do....I jumped into the action!
I took off my Gil jersey, and extended my long arm over the children and he signed it! People were trying to talk to him and when someone told him Live 08 was the bomb, he was like "really? I never played it."
People were asking why and some other stuff and Gil said "ha, im too busy cheating on Halo 3."
Gil has been in the news because people say he cheats on Halo 3 (wtf?
)
So after I got my autograph, I moved out of the crowd and watched as people swarmed his car. In the end, this was one of the best nights in my life because Gil is my favorite player.
