That tends to happen when you have 10 total members.

Golden State might not make the playoffs in the West, but they'd be 3 games ahead of currently 4th place Cleveland, not to mention the fact that if they were in the East, they'd be playing the Washingtons and Torontos rahter than the Lakers and Suns. It'll be pretty disappointing for the team that ends up 9th...
5-6-7 race in the East has gotten a bit interesting. Wiz get Arenas back, Sixers were on a roll beating up everyone, but now are settling back down (and just to note, asides from maybe Billups, Andre Miller is the best PG in the East), and the Raptors are actually better with Rasho freakin Nesterovic in the middle rather than #1 pick Bargnani. These 3 can go from being swept by Detroit to having a chance to take down a significantly weaker Magic or Cavs team...

That tends to happen when you have 10 total members. And yet the NCAA Tournament thread is what....14 pages? Point failed.

I never said NBA was more popular than NCAAB.
But it isnt that hard to find solid NBA fans on many boards. Just not a lot of them are here. Small sample size.

Because the NBA is shit. I thought we went over this. The NBA has been amazing this year, I don't know what you are talking about. Just watching this West race shape up is the most entertained I've been with the NBA in years. 1-9 seperated by seven games with eight games to go in the season. No one in the west has even clinched a playoff spot yet, though I'm pretty sure the Hornets will lock one up if they beat New York tonight. The NBA this year has been a lot of fun to watch and follow and the playoffs ought to be a blast. I personally can't wait.

I wouldnt care if every team in the West had the same record. The gameplay is boring, going to games is more listening to lame music and "entertainment" than actual basketball, and the star treatment given by the refs makes the games pretty unwatchable. I think the 24 second clock is a big problem. There isn't enough time to set up a possession and work as an offense, its always a drive and a) score b) get fouled c) miss and complain that you got fouled or d) kick out for a three.

I have liked the NBA more than I ever have this year. Maybe it's cause the Celtics are dirty, but I do like watching the Western Conference race.

yeah and then there's also the fact that nba players are more concerned with making themselves look good than actually winning. I can't stand how little it seems they care about the game. At least pretty much all college kids show some emotion and heart on the floor.

I don't think that the players don't care out there. I know they make plays look easy while some bum like hansbrough does the same thing except with the addition of a couple yells and falling down afterwards just to get the "hustle" and "heart" praise from announcers.
Its just the style of play that I'm not a fan of.

I love to see the bench reactions though. These guys are excited just to be playing and every basket, steal, block, dunk is huge for them. I was watching the raptors the other night and Moon made a sweet dunk and it was like the bench was watching stars on ice. Half the time they seem barely awake on the bench.

This has probably been my favorite NBA season to watch as a whole with everything going on now. Nothing beat 2001 with Iverson's run the the Finals, but watching the whole league as opposed to one team this year has been interesting. The only way I can really see the season getting ruined is if San Antonio plays Detroit again... we gotta have Boston or Cleveland (preferably Boston for the sake of the series lasting more than 4 games) against one of the running West teams or even LeBron-Kobe would be good...

I know I'm slow - but this is what drives the SA media nuts every year... arguements similar to this as similar to Jay's about lack of team basketball are the main arguments about why the NBA sucks... well who does it? The f'in Spurs... the Spurs fit EVERY single argument of people who bitch about basketball - then they succeed and everyone says too boring, etc. The Spurs win, then everyone flips their opinions and goes the other way. I have no problem if you don't like basketball, but when there is a team (or a few more with Detroit if Sheed's thong isn't tucked up his ass too deep) who fits the argument - succeeding... doing well - it just isn't logical.

Teams like the Cavs, Lakers, Nuggets, Golden State could be exciting without boring the socks off of you and still playing teamball at most times. People want to see scoring even if they want to see people passing. A 110-108 game is far better than 83-78 anyday.

todays NBA fans dont care about team basketball. Times have changed. Fast paced hoops is more exciting and watching an individual drop over 48 points or something is exciting. Sure the Spurs are the perfect example of a team united but if they keep going to the finals, fans will be disinterested.
If The Spurs face the Pistons again, finals ratings will be low. Whereas the Celtics face the Lakers, ratings will be sky high and the NBA will make a crap load of money.
But this is one of the most exciting NBA seasons ever because of the madness going on in the West and the Celtics total domination of the league after being a losing franchise for the past, what, three years. Some people have different opinions about the league and the players but overall, the NBA is thriving and every game counts for teams trying to make the playoffs (most notably all the teams in the west trying to secure a high seed).

^^I still think the refs conspire against "boring" teams in the playoffs.

IMO a Boston/LA meeting would probably get the best ratings for an NBA final in quite some time.
You have mega-stars in Kobe and KG, and you would bring back a lot of fans from the 80s.

If 2 BIG, historic teams like the Lakers and Celts make it to the finals ratings would be hella crazy. Everyone knew LeBron and the Cavs would get swept last year so why watch? Not to mention the Spurs made it to that point yet again. No offense but the Spurs being in the finals would hurt the ratings.
