Most improved...hmmm...dare I say the Arizona Diamondbacks? Here's why. The most improved doesn't necessarily mean the team that spent the most or got the biggest players. The most improved is the team that did the most to improve itself, and sometimes, actually, very often, improving isn't just signing the big names. A quick look at some of the improvements of the D-Backs:
Gone is a lot of money in Randy Johnson. While he brought popularity, and was successful, it was ulitmately the smarter move to get something for him rather than letting him retire and recieving no compensation. Filling the void left by Johnson is Javier Vasquez. I think that Vasquez will really thrive with the New York Media and expectancy to win off of his back. Also added to the rotation was Russ Ortiz who can win ball games consistantly and no longer has to be an ace of the rotation.
On the offensive side, they added Troy Glaus, who, if he can ward off recent injuries, is pretty much a lock to hist .300/30/100. Also added is Sean Greene. I personally think his recent woes at the plate are just a fluke, and that he will turn into the slugger he once was.
Call me crazy, but come end of the season, I have a feeling the D-Backs will have at least 20 more wins, and they may even break .500. That is improvement.

I don't think the D-Backs are the most improved team. Yes, they unloaded a lot of money in Randy Johnson. Javier Vazquez will return to his Montreal form. The combination of Bank Ones (atleast I think its still called that) spacy confines, lack of media scrutiny, and the absence of a DH make Arizona a much easier place to pitch. Brandon Webb is still a good pitcher, but they need some run support (7-16 with a 3.59 ERA). But behind them, the pitching is weak.
Troy Glaus and Shawn Green could alleviate the offensive woes, but they both have a lot of question marks surrounding them. Remember, they also traded away Shea Hillenbrand. And while he will never be a superstar, he will be one of those solid guys who bats .300 and gives you 20 HRs and 80 RBIs.
I think a lot of teams made some solid moves this offseason, but none really jump out. NY made a lot of news with Beltran and Martinez, but I'm not sold on many of their players. They will definately improve, but $24 for Kris Benson??
I think the most interesting team to watch will be Oakland. Trading away Hudson and Mulder, it will be fun to see if Nick Swisher, Dan Haren, and their other prospects can come through. I have always liked Oakland, and if they can continue to get by with their low payroll it will be something amazing.

A good point. I forgot about them losing Shea. Still, look around the league. Not a lot of teams have the potential to win 20-30 more games than they did last season.

A lot of teams made solid moves, but still lost some players. Example, White Sox gained Posednik, Dye, and Pierzynski (sp), but lost Mags. Seattle got Beltre and Sexson, but still has a lack of pitching. On paper, no team should be making big jumps in the win column, in either direction.

If teams are gaining more quality players than they are losing, then why wouldn't there be large jumps in the win columns?
