After the 1992 season, the Milwaukee Brewers didn't resign star player Paul Molitor, claiming he was just an average DH who was on the downslope of his career. Nevermind that the guy went on to play in Toronto and Minnesota and win a couple World Series rings, the Brewers have endured 12 consecutive losing seasons after they refused to resign Molitor, tied for longest current streak in the majors with Pittsburgh. Friday night the Brewers beat Pittsburgh for win #81 this season, gaurenteeing that they'd at least finish at .500, snapping the streak of losing seasons. Even though they went on to choke away the next two games to finish the season at 81-81, I'm still thrilled that they did so well this season. Gone are the days of the Brewers being a perennial laughing stock - next year they will contend for a wildcard spot as guys like J.J. Hardy, Rickie Weeks, and Prince Fielder gain more experience. Finishing at 81-81, the Brewers finished in 3rd in the NL Central, ahead of the Chicago Scrubs. I know all you Yankee and Red Sox bandwagoners will probably just point and laugh, but screw you all! ;D The Brewers haven't finished this well since I was like 4 and they finished 92-70..ahead of both the Yankee$ and Red Sux that season.

No need for the shots on the Red Sox. Yankees are fine by me. Um, congrats. They have a good young team with underrated pitching in Davis and Capuano (sp). Interesting to see what they do with Lyle Overbay with Prince coming. That trade for Lee really worked out though. They are in a hard division but see no reason, except for injuries, that they won't improve next season.

They FAR surpased my expectations for them this season. Should be a fun year next season see how they fare in a deep division such as the central.

No need for the shots on the Red Sox. The only reason I don't like them is because ESPN hypes the Red Sox/Yankees like it's the best thing to ever happen to sports and that each series will go down in history. It's not. It won't. I can't stand to watch Red Sox/Yankees games, and that overhyped series is why I lose a little more interest in the AL every year (that and the DH, which is pretty pointless since most AL teams have a weak-hitting utility infielder hitting in the 9 spot anyway).

Doubt that Milwaukee will have the same success next year as they did this year. Probably only 70-75 wins next year.

Any reasons why you think that's going to happen?

Keep in mind that the Brewers did it without their ace for the final month or two of the season. The Brewers are an up and coming team. They've had one of the best farm systems for the past decade or so (basically all of their talent came up through the organization), they play in a pretty weak division (didn't think I'd be saying that about the Central anytime soon, but Pittsburgh and my Reds don't look like they will be competing in the near furture, the Cubs are nothing great (plus their history of poor playing), and two of Houston's top pitchers lived through World War II (not really...but they are old), and with a combination of young talent (Hardy, Fielder, Weeks, Bill Hall) and proven stars (Lee, Jenkins), the Brewers could be a force to be reckoned with in the next few years.

World War II....nice.
But I agree, the Indians and Brewers are the up and coming elite teams in baseball. I believe the Indians have already proved that, the Brew Crew will next season.

I wouldn't say elite. Best case scenario, the Brewers become the Minnesota Twins of the NL...I seriously doubt they'll ever win a World Series, but it'd be cool.

Wow anyone who call the Central weak has some balls, St. Loius (Best team in majors) Houston (Wild Card winner), Chicago is going to be decent (had injury issues with thier top 2 pitchers this year). Pirates have up and coming young guns (best rookie pitcher Zach Duke).
On the Astros, Pettitte isn't that old, and Clemens seems to get better as he gets older, this season is his career best.
I have nothing against saying they aren't becomeing a better team, but they still have a decent ways to go to catch up with the Cardinals and Astros
