Hmmm...he says that he'll resign with the Red Sox, and then the Dodgers job opens up...now suddenly he doesn't want to come back to Boston?
Hmmmm....

Hmmm...indeed.
Didn't think of that. Not like they weren't offering him enough money.

I think you can pretty much rule out the Dodgers, since they've been after Pat Gillick for quite some time now...

Yes, but that was before Theo Epstein became available.
Not that I'm saying hes the 1337 pwnzor GM everyone makes him out to be. He just happened to swing one big trade that was credited in ending the 86 year curse.

I'd take Paul over Theo anyday, but that's just me... I just figure that if the Dodgers got rid of DePodesta, they won't have any need for Epstein. If the SABR approach doesn't work the first time, why would it work the second?

No one likes the Queen City. No one likes you. I believe the users of the internet refer to an occurance such as this as "pwned."

Trading Lo Duca and Mota for Hee Seop Choi is still a move I really don't understand, especially when they were headed towards a division title that season. He took the Moneyball thing too far...I doubt Epstein would've done something like that.
As for where he goes now, I thought I heard Peter Gammons say on ESPNEWS or SC or something that there's the possibility of him ending up in Philadelphia or Cincinnati, since those are really the only two spots open at this point - unless for some reason he wants to go to Tampa.

The thing I don't understand is that it says he grew up around there, he's a Sox man. And Boston's got a bigger payroll than any other team with an open GM spot, so I don't know why he'd want to leave that.

He felt like Henry was more on Lucchino's side, somewhat undermining him. Also, although to me it seemed like he loved it, he has said he didn't like "the rockstar" life that accompianied the job.
Looks like Kevin Towers has the inside track. He has ties with Lucchino from San Diego and is a native New Englander.
I wish Epstein had made this decision before we let Josh Byrnes (35) and our former asst. GM got to Arizona.
Either way, this is an awful thing for the Sox and they really screwed things up. Whoever comes in will be under immediate pressure trying to fill Theo's shoes.

I desperately hope that DePodesta finds his way back to Oakland, and if Epstein wants to leave Boston for a team with a lousy situation, so be it. Maybe we'll see Epstein in Los Angeles and Gillick in Boston.
