The Player's Union broke down and agreed to the 50-100-Life system of penalties, and the tests will now also test for amphetamines as well as steroids. Thoughts?

I like this. Baseball has needed something severe to keep players away from steriods.

Anybody read the excellent book on steroids in ESPN the Mag this week? (any article that long qualifies as a book) The article catapulted the Mag ahead of SI in my list of favorite magazines. (It blew away SI's coverage of the steroid scandal a few years ago).

This is a great sport the old American Tradition of baseball needs to be played with the players being true to the game not cheating, with performance enhancing drugs.

Now to eliminate steroids in collegiate and high school athletics... And bodybuilding and WWE aren't included in this?

Now to eliminate steroids in collegiate and high school athletics... Too bad there's no governing body over the sports. Sure, each state has its own high school athletics governing body, and the NCAA and the NAIA cover quite a few colleges, but there's no way that all could be united under one set of rules. Plus, it would cost a ton just to test all the athletes.

That ESPN article was so damn long, but worth reading. Nicely done.
But they brought up something in there....there's still no way to detect HGH (I think that's the one). So while baseball is taking great steps towards totally cleaning up the game, some stuff is still undetectable, and chemists can continue to devise new roids.

I wonder how many (if any) if banned for life, would be able to come back after two years, as indicated by the new regulations...

hGH is detectable, but only through select blood tests. Since baseball doesn't do any blood tests, a ton of player could still get away with hGH. As for the coming back after two years, I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to keep getting caught to get banned for life, but if they did, I really don't think that player's petition to be reinstated after two years would be seriously looked at.
