David Locke is reporting that he's heard of a major deal between the Mariners and Florida is in the works. Gil Meche, Jeremy Reed, and Jose Lopez for Carlos Delgado and Juan Pierre.
As much as I'd love to see Delgado and Pierre play in Seattle, the thought of losing Lopez seems to be too much. The most reasonable option might then be to pick up Boone and put him there until we can fit someone else in for the everday job.
Overall, I think this is very possible. Meche isn't someone we want to build our team around, and replacing Reed with Pierre wouldn't be that bad (Pierre in the hole behind Ichiro would sure be fun). The clincher, though, is Lopez. Without him, there's not many guys we can promote from within the organization.
I'd do it, though, but we need to make sure that we have an option set at second before will pull the trigger.

Seattle still needs pitching. Would improve them, but with that pitching staff, they aren't going anywhere.

We're still talking to Burnett (even though signing him seems likely with Toronto's massive offer on the table). Matt Morris, Esteban Loaiza, and a few others still remain as possible fitters for our rotation, and with Felix Hernandez and Jamie Moyer back, we might be able to slip by.
