How is he a jerk? Don't try to tell me you wouldn't take the higher dollar amount.
Not a shocker.

Not surprised. I would take the higher deal if I liked the program and I think they could win a championship.
I like winning more and thats what I would do.

Pssh, Mets didn't need him that badly. I guess it's alright because their payroll is high as it is, but damn, the Mets could have just matched the Phillies offer and got him to go. It's no secret he hates Philly. He came on WFAN and blasted the fans, talks about the bigger ball park, and lies about not caring about the cash. Phillies fans, don't fear. Tom Gordon is no Wagner, but they can get 80-85% of Wagner for about half the price.

Mets didn't need him that badly? Braden Looper blew way too many saves and their bullpen wasn't that great.
Plus, this is the Mets. They overpay for everything.

Well, in the market value, they didn't overpay for him. The bar was set with Ryan's contract. If that's the going rate, then he signed for what would be expected. The Ryan deal on the other hand...
It is the same thing with the Kris Benson deal last year. Just ask Matt Clement and others.

Since I may be becoming a pseudo-Met fan in the next year, I could see why they'd make a move like this. Just watching the Brewers games against the Mets this past season, they had an absolutely horrible bullpen. Closing was only half their problem...their middle relievers were crap, too. They've got a good core of players on offense (Delgado and Floyd will provide the power, Reyes and Wright are going to be HUGE stars in a couple more years), but their pitching is still horrible. Their starting rotation is good enough to make them a playoff team, but their bullpen still needs more help. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets signed Ugie Urbina, assuming he doesn't end up in a Venezuelan prison.

Their starters are well, old. And Delgado will take pressure off Beltran. A interseting team to watch definately.
