I think the Phillies, because Abreu is a great player but his lack of being consistant showed in the second half of last year.

The rumored deal is actually Manny, Clement, and some AA scrub for Abreu and a prospect. I dont' think it'll be Floyd, seeing how he had just one good outing in the majors, and then sucked it up big in the minors. I doubt Clement would be worth that. Cole on the other hand would be good for the Sox. He has some nice stuff, and could be in the majors in just a couple seasons at the rate he's going.
Also, apparently the Red Sox made this offer, from the reports I've heard. Unless the Phils really feel that Cole is gonna be hot stuff and that they feel they could get better pitching for Abreu, the Phils should take it in a heart beat. It's hard to believe the Sox would make this offer at all, but they do have the money to get some good players, although the market isn't exactly flooded as in years past.
I doubt this is actually going to go through, although now that the Phils have Gillick as a GM, who I feel is going to be a bit pressured by Philly fans (not knocking Philly fans or anything, just saying that they won't show up when the team starts 10-20) and he wants to prove that this franchise is turning around, and if he feels that he wants to give this team a new face and feel to it, accept it, although there's definitely better pitching available for Abreu.

So if you want to call 2 days ago DAYS, then go ahead, but I have yet to find anything on Abreu/Manny that has had to deal with it being shot down, so if you could gladly show us a source rather than act like you're the all knowing Baseball God, then maybe I'll find you credible. |

Anyways, can you atleast have a website (even if it's a dubious source, it's alteast a written source) if you want to break some news. If the rumor or story has any merit, someone will have broken it online somewhere else. If all you have is "I saw it on ESPNnews" people could pull any rumor out of their ass and say they saw it there. And the only reports I've heard about this not working was the original Manny/Abreu straight up deal, which was turned down by the Phils. Nowhere on ESPN or RealGM have I seen anything that has shown this has been shot down... |

Also Gillick has expressed that he wants more pitching. If Abreu can be shipped for Jason Schmidt or another #1 or 2 guy, I can see how this won't go down, but there hasn't been much talk about Schmidt or any other guy that the Phils are eying out, namely Jason Marquis and Erik Bedard (most likely with other players packaged in the deal too) |
