I know this is old but noone had talked about yet. Yesterday the Jays traded Hudson and Batista to the D'Backs for Glaus and a prospect. I think this prob TO's best move of the offseason by far. They significantly improve their batting but it does create a logjam at 1st/3rd with Hinske, Hillenbrand, Koskie, Overbay, and Glaus. I think they want to move Koskie but noone is interested, so they may have to trade Hillenbrand.
The only negative out of this trade is that Glaus is more expensive than Batista and Hudson combined plus Hudson is the best defender outside Wells that the Jays had. However I thing Aaron Hill will become a pretty good player for the Jays in the future but it is really hard to give away a guy with the talent of Hudson. Thoughts?

If he stays healthy, the Jays are now going to be very competitive. A big if.
I <3 Hudson for what it is worth.

I'd put money on Glaus being Toronto's DH, but it does give them the power they were lacking. Gap hitters like Overbay and Hinske are nice, but in the AL East they'll have to outscore teams to win.

It does create a log jam at 1st and 3rd...I see Koskie going and Hinski and Glaus rotate in a DH/1B thing....I'll definetely miss O-dawg but I really liek what my Jays are doing, I think they can finish second in the East and contend for a wildcard.

I hadn't seen this yet, but just wanted to state Glaus is probably the best power hitter I've ever seen in person, and I go to a very good share of games. Saw him once hit 4 out in a game at a pitchers park in San Antonio.

The token Jays fan is here for his analysis.
Basically, Orlando Hudson has been trade bait for a while now. He did win a gold glove, but as a sub .250 hitter, on a team that had one of the best fielding percentages in the AL, it was the offence that needed to be addressed. I couldn't be happier with this trade. Along with the 40+ HR hitting Glaus whose credentials speak for themselves, the Jays get another middle infield prospect.
As for the log-jam at the corners, well, there's been talk that the underachieving Eric Hinske (who hasn't done anything since his rookie season), could play some left field this year, to relieve some pressure. Overbay's going to play 1st, that's a lock already as GM J.P. Riccardi's already stated, and Glaus and Koskie will split 3rd. Glaus and Hillenbrand should split DH, unless Shea gets dealt, in which case Glaus will become the everday DH.
And Miguel Batista...that man was not liked in Toronto. That's all I can say...his stats aren't bad, but my god, he made every easy save a close one.
I think the Jays win this trade because they got what they needed, but if the D'backs can turn Miguel into an awesome pitcher (which he could be) combined with a gold glove winner...they got a decent package themselves.

Glaus might hit 40+ HR, but can you deal with 130-150 whiffs? That's a lot of lost productivity, and in the AL East, like Jami noted earlier, you'll need all the runs you can get.

Glaus has only hit better then .258 once, and that was in 2000. His walks were down last year, although his season average is around 90. He will, knock the ball out of the park though, no matter what.
If he stays healthy, he will be a force. If he can't, it'll be a problem. I expect Toronto to stash him at DH to avoid such a problem.
