This news broke earlier last week: www.sptimes.com/2006/01/15/Rays/Name_could_be_big_cha.shtmlIt seems likely that the word 'Devil' will be dropped and that 'Rays' may be altered so that it represents those of the sun. The article suggests that the Tampa Bay Tarpons is one of many possible new names the organization may choose to elect.

Hey Bravest, i guess your the News bearer for DC on the Topic though, i like the original team name Devil Rays. the Rays as in sunshine dosen't sound baseball-ish to me. (or maybe its because i played baseball as a kid in the 'Sunshine' League)

"Yeah, right, just try not to be too gay on the court. Gay... the sports way. I think that goes without saying." Kudos to whoever can tell me where that came from...

Tampa Bay Tarpons? What's a tarpon? n : large silvery game fish of warm Atlantic coastal waters especially off Florida That reminds me too much of something else... I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that it's a letter away from being a feminine product.

I know there's a place in Florida near Tampa Bay called Tarpon Springs. That's it.
I'd pick a name that sounds a little less like...well, you know...or they could become a massive joke.

Tarpons has been used for several minor league teams.
Though I thought this was common knowledge, was on Sportslogos.net for quite some time
