Is Sammy Sosa a hall of famer?
2,304 hits 588 home runs 1,575 RBI .274 career BA 1998 NL MVP
He has more homeruns than all but 4 players: Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds and Willie Mays. Also hit 60+ homers in a season three times.
With those numbers yes he should be in the HOF but even though he never tested positive for steroids, he was still caught cheating and his name is always lumped in with steroids controversey. I would not vote him into the hall of fame, but he will eventually end up there.

The CubsFan says Yes..
The sports guy says No, because it looks like he was a steroid user, being the ONLY player in the MLB to have his AVG HR and RBI decline in every year since, i believe it was 1998 but im not sure.

Well its gonna go down since 98 because you can't hit 66 home runs each year
I say he's in, because I don't think he took steroids

Well its gonna go down since 98 because you can't hit 66 home runs each year I made a mistake in my first post, its since 2001 not since 1998. I'm talking about all three, not just home runs, Sammy Sosa's stats since 2001: 2001: .328 avg, 64 home runs, 160 RBI 2002: .288 avg, 49 home runs, 108 RBI 2003: .279 avg, 40 home runs, 103 RBI 2004: .253 avg, 35 home runs, 80 RBI 2005: .221 avg, 14 home runs, 45 RBI notice anything?

Not in his 1st year of eligibility, but maybe down the road if he's completely clean. His image has taken a hit, and he sorta needs to clean it up if he wants to get in anyways...
If he's clean, no doubt, HOF IMO
And Chris, he was at the end of his career. Those were his last 5 seasons, of course it would make sense that they'd decline, or else he'd still play...

This is what I don't get, steroid users are likely to get in, but the All-Time Hit King can't because he simply gambled on his own team.

It hasnt been 'proven' Sosa took steriods. And im not saying you need solid proof to form an opinion about someone (most likely the correct one), like O.J. Simpson. It was never proven he killed those two people, but come on, some things dont need to be proved.

Well let the guy who dedicates his DC name to the player chip in his two cents....
Yes, you are right, his numbers have declined a bit to this past season, but it didn't start after the 98 season.
1999: .288 AVG, 63 HR, 141 RBIs 2000: .320 AVG, 50 HR, 138 RBIs ^Some people calling those bad numbers? 2001: .328 AVG, 64 HR, 160 RBIs 2002: .288 AVG, 49 HR, 108 RBIs 2003: .279 AVG, 40 HR, 103 RBIs
Now 2001-2003 average did start to fall noticeably. But having 40 Home Run seasons are good seasons, all 3 have 100+ Ribbies, as well.
Let's note that 2004 and 2005, he was injury plagued, probably mixed with his 15th and 16th season.
Maybe, I'm just biased and one of only few Cub fans who still have respect for Sammy. When he had the "cork" incident and Sammy said that "I grabbed the wrong bat off the rack. I used that for practice to show off to the fans."
Plus, I don't think the goatee he was wearing at the time was good luck.
I also don't think he has been on steriods of late. Now, he could have during those 60 HR seasons, but steriods aren't a permanent thing. They have to be re-taken to keep its size, or you will go back to your original size.
For some odd reason...many people put a lot of bad in front of people, instead of the good. Let's look at...hmmm...Sammy Sosa....he re-revolutionized baseball with McGwire, as so many baseball "historians" have stated. Those huge battles brought more excitement to baseball, while myself I think McGwire was on the roids, is another story, that doesn't matter. Then, just because of one incident that could of been an accident for what we know, the corked-bat, everyone labels him a cheater, even with the above stated evidence of checking 76 of his bats and the 5 in Cooperstown. And, we know he took the steriod tests this season, as he was required to...nothing...
Same goes for Pete Rose...did he cheat in the game? No. Did he bet on it? Yes. But just because I wanted even more money from the game he plays, does that take away from his playing ability? NO. This guy deserves to be in the freaking Hall of Fame. And I feel the same for Sosa.

haha don't worry about it. Also, he does deserve to make it to the Hall though, because you brought up some points I... err.. forgot about.. when he left the Cubs to go to the Orioles.
