The New York Daily News is reporting that Joe Torre, yes Joe Torre, is out as manager of the Yankees replaced by... Lou Pinella. I'm not sure what to think of this yet, thoughts anyone?
Now this isn't a done deal yet, but it is looking like it at the moment.

They probably do need a new voice to whip these guys into shape. I'm not sure it's true, the Daily News reported this yesterday morning and still nothing, so we shall see.

Until the words come out of George Steinbrenners mouth, I won't beleive anything. I listened to the media when they said LeCharles Bentley was as good as an Eagle, now look where he is. The media is full of lies!

There has been talk of Torre being fired the past 5 years ever since the Yanks lost to the D-Backs. I'm a Yankee fan so I pay attention to all this stuff. I am not saying it won't happen, but I doubt it.
If anyone is leaving it's A-Rod. They might use him to get Barry Zito and Jason Schmidt. At the end of the offseason, they may have both. They have ot go after pitching it's not an option to forget about it. They pushed it to the side again this year and it killed them.
Sheffield might be on his way out if they excercise his option. I think the Yankees need to develop younger guys like Melky Cabrera and Cano and bring in more players like that, not old guys way past prime. Go back to the team concept that was in place in 98-99.

I don't want Zito or Schmidt...I think they're far overrated...and we don't need another two overrated starters. Zito maybe but certainly not Schmidt...screw NL pitchers. Sheff is gone I think and I'd love to see A-Rod gone as well. We've got Nick Green and Eric Duncan to grow at third, let's see it. I wish Posada would leave too, he can't call a game for his life. Sorry...but there's gotta be something wrong with such "great" pitchers pitching such shitty games besides the fact that they were obviously never as good as we blew them up to be.

Schmidt is a waste at this point in his career.
Also, you can't just dump A-Rod's salary on anyone. It's huge.
Anyway - today it was confirmed that Torre will return next year.

I think I am going to give A-Rod one more season. Sure the guy had an off year but an off year for him was .290 and 35 homers, still impressive numbers. Sure he sucks in the playoffs but I didn't see anyone else stepping up either.
I would however like to see some younger players get some time and develop into a guy like Cano or Cabrera.

A-Rod will be a Yankee until the Yanks and the new team reach out an agreement where Steinbrenner pays about half of A-Rod's salary. The only team that could potentially afford him would seem like Boston... and that won't happen.
And I think the Yankees do need a new manager, although I don't want to see Piniella after his embarassing D-Ray tenure. Come on Steinbrenner, make me hate the Yanks again!
