As for the Devil Rays like McGahee mentioned... They added one good play while losing Julio Lugo who I an dissapointed to point out was one of our best player. We seem to develop players in time for the to get sick of playing for a bad team in a bad field and they leave. They will finish last again. The real story is if we can keep our quality players. The Boston Redskins didn't do much but snab Disuke Matsusaka who is either going to play well or make us wish we had our 50 Million dollars back. We were a good team last year but tried the young pitching thing. Schilling needs to shut his mouth and pitch, Becket needs to find composure and we need to get quality releiving to play better this year. Willy Mo Pena will replace Trot Nixon rather well. Probably 2nd behind the Yanks again. Wily Mo ain't replacing Trot. JD Drew is. The line-up if healthy is as good as anyone's in the league. Defensively, we took a bit of a hit with Gonzalez leaving, but you could argue his lack of offense offset that a bit. Other than that, the defense should be similar. I believe whatever we lose in defense with Lugo he will make up for at the plate. Pitching is the enigma. Who knows? He showed flashes of dominance but as we all know was never consistant. He still won 16 games with a 5.01 ERA (not sure if that is impressive or ominous). I think he will chop off around a full run from that which would be good. I like our depth in the rotation because there are always injuries. I am worried about the closer situation. I like the addition of Donnelly and Romero, but I would be so happier knowing there was a sure-fire option for the 9th. Should be an interesting year. I think there is a real chance we hop over the Yanks this year, but if not, WC for sure.

Coco.
And I like Pena too. So much power its hard not to like him. He had a very solid season at the plate. Unfortunately, he is atrocious in the field.

Royals: 90 loss potential Devil Rays: Could be third if some pitching questions are answered and management doesn't trade half the team for prospects... Why do you choose to support two teams that blow? Oh, you mean the team that SWEPT you in DETROIT and cost you the division title? Would you like some ointment for that burn? And, I don't care you won the ALCS and went to the WS. I really don't. ;D

It's only because we want to be like you, DB. Remember, you are just a few years removed from <50 wins.

Tell that to the cubs, who are closing in on nearly a century of futility. 2 years isn't that long.

Kansas City Royals
2006 Season: 60-102, 5th AL Central
Starting Lineup LF David DeJesus 2B Mark Grudzielanek DH Mike Sweeney 1B Ryan Shealy RF Mark Teahen 3B Alex Gordon SS Angel Berroa C John Buck/Jason LaRue CF Joey Gathright
Rotation RHP Gil Meche LHP Odalis Perez LHP Jorge De La Rosa RHP Luke Hudson RHP Zack Greinke
Key Bullpen Guys LHP John Bale RHP David Riske RHP Joe Nelson
Closer RHP Octavio Dotel
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the absolute best case scenario is .500 this season. It's very doable, but the key guys will need to stay healthy. I'm not betting the farm on it, but I'm hoping, out of Mike Sweeney, Octavio Dotel, Zack Greinke, and David DeJesus, at least two or three of them will stay healthy. Sweeney has hinted at retirement if his back doesn't hold up. Getting 110 or more games out of him will be huge. Having a healthy DeJesus is huge.
We have guys that can drive in runs. The Royals are moving Mark Teahen to the outfield to make room for Alex Gordon, which I think is a smart move. He dominated AAA last year, and I think will do fine this year. Plus, he's superb defensively. Grudzielanek solidifies the middle on defense, and was the Royals' best hitter for a time last year. Ryan Shealy was the heir apparent to Todd Helton in Colorado, and getting him was a major coup by Moore.
Another reason why I think this team can surprise is the closer spot. Octavio Dotel at 80% is better than any closer we've had since Jeff Montgomery. KC blew around 25 saves last year, and I would bet having Dotel there will cut that number to around ten, maybe less. At least half.
The AL Central is tough, which is why they won't get to .500. But any other division, they would threaten that mark.
Final Prediction - 75-87, 4th AL Central (Just ahead of CLE)

Well, time to see how good, or bad, we did with our predictions.
I was dead-on about pretty much everything. I called us being in last place in the central, and on pace for over 100 losses. Then that whole thing about Dunn and Griffey possibly being traded.

I must've blacked out those two weeks as I didn't post about Boston....well even I couldn't even have called an 11.5 game over the Yankees in July

I never made a prediction, but I figured why bother since the Orioles are always in 4th place and nowhere near making the playoffs. Its been since 98'!

The Not-Yankees will win the World Series this year. Don't look now, but I'm looking like a genius at the moment.
