Good for Joe. The man brought 12 straight playoff appearances and 4 world titles and gets treated like a bum.

Daily News headline: "'Why I had to Quit' Joe: - 'The Boss' incentive was an insult'
Daily News sub-headline: "Dow plunges 366 points - See page 21"
No other good place to post this.

He's being a baby about it, he hasn't won shit since 2003 and we didn't win it all then either. He'd still be the highest paid manager in the league. He's got a friggin A-Rod mentality going..."So what if I can help my team win when it matters? I'm still worth 32948394 million dollars!"

Yeah, it's also his fault that his vaunted line-up couldn't hit to save their lives in the playoffs, his biggest superstar doesn't know what a meaningful post-season hit looks like, his best pitcher gets shelled twice in the same series, he only has two reliable pitchers (chamberlain and pettitte) and the $20 million dollar man they signed mid-season is washed up. Other than that, yeah it's his fault.

Other than that, yeah it's his fault. It's more than one year this is all about. He makes terrible pitching changes...terrible. He does little as far as managing from the dugout is concerned, do you ever see him give any kind of advice to his players? They haven't won and it is HIS job to get them to win. It's as simple as that. And he's the idiot that decided to put Clemens in when he was still hurt and hadn't pitched in a month, no one else. He's supposed to know these things, but he doesn't. He got lazy when Steinbrenner started handing him All-Star teams. He's a good manager but he's lost his touch and a $2M paycut wasn't going to hurt him or his friggin' pride.

I am convinced that next year begins a repeat of the entire 1980s for the Yanks.

congrats to joe. He gave a great press conference and was exactly right. They treated him like crap and he deserves much better for what hes done in 12 years. No other teams has had that much success.
He was exactly right about the contract to. Them decreasing his salary means they aren't satisfied with what he's doing, and he deserves more respect than that.

You could name the managers on one hand that did the same thing that Torre did in his time as the skipper. I hate the Yankees, but I actually liked and respected him. Normally, I don't like it when players and managers scoff at paycuts like this, but for what he's done, it's warranted.

Oh really? How much did you guys give Kevin Brown? Haha, damn. I hated that signing just as much as I hated the Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright signings. What's funny about the whole Kevin Brown thing though, is that Sports Illustrated thought for sure that signing his 97-year old ass would for sure make our staff unbeatable. How wrong were they?
