I don't think Lowell will go to the Yankees. He said during the season that he would definitely consider it.

He won't go to the Yankees and, despite having a great year this season, is not close to A-Rod offensively. He's infinately better when it comes to fielding and playing in the playoffs, though. He has a lower postseason OPS than A-Rod, how is that "infinately (sic) better?" Fielding yes (although A-Rod could probably still play a good shortstop).

I think it would be bad for baseball if Lowell went to New York or perhaps re-signed in Boston, Anaheim, Etc.

I am just saying, a player like that can attract people to smaller market teams. It would be great for baseball to see a player of that caliber go to a smaller market team instead of getting a ton of money to be just another bat on a loaded team.
EDIT: To add, take Alex Rodriguez for example. David made a great point in saying if he went to Florida what he can do in helping them get a new stadium.

I've actually been around the guy enough to say that he's a decent guy, so I went with the contract. It's not his fault he gets paid that much, it's the owners. And I love how everyone jumps on his playoff performance when Wang got blown apart twice in one series and Clemens couldn't last 3 innings.

Simply put, he sucks, so don't even get me started on him. If there was a topic on him, please...he's so friggin' overrated it's unbelievable. Clemens was Torre's fault. He was hurt still and hadn't pitched in a month like...duh? No one's really jumping on his playoff performance either, he does suck. I'm sure some people go over board with it but...he's pretty terrible in the playoffs.

how about those clutch double plays jeter grounded into Did any yankee do anything vs cleveland? david, it's not just one year we're talking about here. Everyone sucked this post-season with the exception of Phil Hughes. There's three other seasons that he did a good job sucking balls in the postseason for where Jeter, since we're using him, did great or at least better than A-Rod.

Damon was fairly consistent from what I remember. He's always been a tough out though.

Nothing wrong with that. 2004 he went .421/.476/.737 in the ALDS and .258/.378/.516 in the ALCS where they gagged to Boston. Jeter was .200/.333/.233 when they gave away the three game lead. I just think the whole blame ARod is really unfair.

Honestly, it's just a case of "Pile on the guy with the biggest contract." He makes much money and puts up such good regular season numbers that people expect him to carry a team, no matter how flawed. It's almost like people expect him to be like Bugs Bunny in those old Looney Toons baseball cartoons.

So media sources report A-Rod wants $350 million. Hm. wow, it looks like A-Rod's about to be the highest paid sports player in the WORLD. Boras' and A-Rod's asking price is waaaaaaay to high because over 70% of MLB teams cant afford him.

I think $350 Mill is more than the Baltimore Orioles team payroll.

I think $350 Mill is more than the Baltimore Orioles team payroll. Well he is better than that team when it doesn't count. So he obviously deserves that money.
