There are some really talented players after Crosby. I know the one guys name is Sebastian but I can't remember his last name. I think he will be a high pick after Crosby.

how good is this Crosby dude, i seen some highlights but its hard to decide. they call him the next gretzky, but thathard to believe, when the best in the game is being compared to someone who got little recognition as a player such as LBJ did about 8 to 12 months before his 2003 draft.

Holy crap oilers get 25th. we were horrible last season. The way they did this was highly unfair, I mean except for the Lightning (who won the cup) picking last and one of the worst teams picking 1st. When teams like Detriot, Montreal, and Ottawa who pretty much always make the playoffs pick ahead of Florida, Edmonton, and others there has to be something wrong. They should have made it less likely for better teams to get higher picks.

I'm not really a hockey fan, but with all the rule changes I might give it a shot if I can catch some games on TV on FSN or something. All I know is that it sucks for the Florida Panthers...one of the worst teams in the league and they're like 29th or 28th or something. They better hope for some big name free agents.

Jami is pretty right, the Panther organization is towards shambles. Mike Keenan has been having a hard time down there from top to bottom. I honestly don't know if he's still around, it's been so bad. SA had the Panthers AHL team so we saw a lot of the problems trickle down. Fortunately Gretzsky's investment group made SA the affiliate of the Coyotes now... not a much better organization, but at least we're connected to The Great One.
For the lottery itself, someone may correct me here, but I believe it's the first time they did a draft lottery in the NHL, let alone one week before the draft. It's an attempt to make the offseason in hockey to mean something unlike the past. The teams were sectioned off to three tiers - 3 groups of 10. Worst 10 had 3 balls in the draft, best 10 had 1 ball. So EVERYONE had a legit chance to get the top pick. Why was this done? To get EVERY CITY a legit chance at Crosby. All I can compare this to is the Duncan lottery in 97 or the Robinson lottery in.... 89? I know there are some other drafts out there where the #1 was obvious going into the lottery.... I suppose maybe the Lebron lottery also..... just can't think of any others.
The rules changes will be interesting to see. Not that they removed the redline, but that they, in turn, narrowed the neutral zone (so it's not 100% removing the red line). Removing space behind the nets will help along with reducing goalie equipment. I'm a purist and enjoy the tie system, but maybe the 3 person shootout won't be such a bad thing once I see it a few times.
*Edit - Also, the draft is a snake draft which isn't SOOOO bad. So where the Avs have 27th, we also have the 34th... etc

1. Sidney Crosby 2. Anze Kopitar 3. Carey Price 4. Martin Hanzel 5. Nicklas Bergfors

actually Robino the amount of lottery balls worked out like this:
The max balls was 3 and the min was 1. A team was deducted one ball for every playoff appearance in the last 2(?) years. They were also deducted a ball for every 1st overall selection the team has had in the past 3(?) years. So the Rangers having been only somewhat bad had 3 balls while a team like FLA having the #1 pick twice, only had one (i think)

you're right, I forgot about the #1 pick part of it, which kinda blows for Florida because they traded their 2 #1 picks, one to Columbus in 02 and to Pittsburgh in 03 when they got JS Aubin at the #1..... so Fla woulda had 3 balls, but lost 2 due to the picks and they really never even had the #1 pick in the situation. And it was #1 picks over the last 4 years I think....
The years for the exceptions, etc, were set up in such a manner to convieniently set up the 3 groups of 10.

Aubin was drafted 3rd round (#76 overall) in the 1995 draft

oops, you're right too.... it was late and I was tired.... seriously, a team should only have 1 goalie with 3 names on it
be impressed I got that much right :-)
