thats pretty bad since you live in missouri St. Louis sucks anyways, so I don't care. Well considering they had 22 straight playoff seasons, i'd think they're kinda hard to miss.

Talking about the city as a whole, not the hockey team. Not really a hockey person, so whatever I say about it, take it with a grain of salt.

The Penguins should relocate to Winnepeg. But it wont happen cause the nhl has a hard-on with the US Market depsite them showing very little interest except to say "oh look our hometown team won the Cup, that's nice." I do agree that KC is a much better hockey market than Dallas, Florida, Nashville, Atlanta, LA, Anaheim, Raleigh, and pretty much every except like 10-15 US markets.
In my opinion, what the NHL needs to do is reduce the number of teams to about 20-25, the quality of the product on the ice would improve and the league would not have to support what I deem to be dead weight which are teams in market so mind-numbingly not geared to hockey at all it perplexes me as to why the were ever given a team let alone still have one.
</end huge rant>

Nashville, Atlanta, Carolina, Florida, one of the california based teams and Phoenix need to be taken out of the league. I'm not going to say that there will never be a following, but it'll be pretty damn hard to get their attention. Colorado happened to get a situation where a cup-contender strolled into town, won the cup in their first season and has been a powerhouse since (well, until the lockout), so that was easy to keep everyone's attention. 24 teams would be plenty with Winnipeg, Quebec or possibly another team in Ontario joining up in the future. The NHL has a hard enough time reaching the national audience. Just focus on getting the fans in each respective market to want to show up to their team's games first, then go from there.

Would there ever be a chance that New Orleans or some team around the south Alabama/Mississippi area receive a hockey team? I would grow vastly interested in hockey if there was a team closer than Tampa Bay.

I would'nt be going around spouting that texas doesn't have a hockey interest they constantly sell-out, they have over 3 Jr.A teams, and a huge youth hockey org., over 4 college teams, over 10 minor league teams, over 3 jr.B teams... Texas is a huge hockey state over alot of differant states... I mean even ohio doesn't have that kind of professional teams

Does KC have a pro hockey team? I know Wichita has had their CHL team for a long time, but I don't remember KC being in the AHL, CHL, etc. Way off topic but Houston would be good for a hockey team. I'd love to see SA get one but they couldn't support one - Houston could though. Houston is starting to get their youth programs up and running - they'd be like Dallas, which yielded a pretty strong HS hockey system after a few years of the Stars. OKC could even support one in the Ford Center, but it's too close to Dallas.... but all of this leads to my one golden flaw which bothered me growing up - living in the 8th largest city in the country and having only one pro team. at the time of the time that the IHL was the 3rd largest hockey league in the states.. the Kansas City Blades were a huge team for KC and we are good drawing team for even back in the 90s and im sure they won a few championships or were contending. But they disbanded not because of fan support because of the IHL disbanding. The Blades were a great draw in KC when they were here. I went to a few games. Didn't the IHL basically fold up, though? I have my doubts about the Penguins coming to KC, but the downtown area is undergoing a major renovation, and if they were to come here, they would get a nice cut of the profits from the revitalization project after it is finished - plus the free rent. Pittsburgh's a great sports town, but it's their fault they don't want to build the new facility. They just spent their money on a new stadium for a baseball team that is one of the worst in MLB right now, if not the worst. Plus, I think we could support a winner. It doesn't hurt that Pittsburgh has some of the best young talent in the league in Staal, Malkin, and Crosby. We need a winning sport around here, the Royals' year is the 2008 season, and the Chiefs are probably looking at a top-five pick in the '08 draft.

I remember going to Mobile Mystics games in the ECHL. Oh and Backstop, Pensacola has a team still in the ECHL called the Ice Pilots. There were like three Louisiana teams in that league, and the Ice Gators over in Lafayette were always a bunch of badasses. Oh and it should be noted that the NHL would have to actually have four year old retards running the show to move a team to New Orleans. We don't really even support the Hornets (when they are not in OK City). Hockey is not a popular sport around here at all. There would be no fan support at all. We really can only support football, and a little baseball here in the deep south.

Well Governor Rendell is attempting to block any sort of move by the Pens. Personally, I still want them in Pittsburgh, seeing how the fans are still coming out there, and that team has cup potential in their future, and it would just be too damn of a shame if they went out to KC and won out there. But they need to do whatever is financially best for the most marketable player they have, and if Kansas City is going to make the fans and execs happy, then so be it...

The Pens owners had their chance for a new arena in '97. They turned it down. Now they want a similar offer. Rendell does not need to throw away a ton of money on getting the team to stay. It is on Bettman and the Pens owners. They have to understand they type of market they are leaving. They are starting to sell out possible season tickets for next season. The city is hyped for what can be there and they will spend the money for years to come.

I heard a rumor that Vegas is a possibilty for relocation. If the NHL allows this I will stop watching. Seriously that is the most preposterous thing I could possibly think of. It would just be a complete attention grab for the NHL and would honestly downgrade the product on the ice and would be a complete slap in the face to any serious hockey fan.

I dunno Las Vegas isn't bad they are a huge/popular city so its not like they are moving to like Wichita, Kansas.. Las Vegas has had some luck with hockey teams The Las Vegas Thunder were a standout in the IHL before the IHL died, Las Vegas Wranglers are a good team for the ECHL... *granted Im saying I would endorse the NHL letting the Penguins moving to Las Vegas, but I will never boycott the NHL I love hockey way to much to boycott...

I was indifferent on the situation, but it's for the best. Hats off to Pittsburgh for getting something done.

Thank god. Like I said, I'm not a Pens fan at all but it would've take a huge hit out of my faith towards the NHL.
