I wouldn't really consider him the captain now... in my mind, he'd be 2nd behind Lecavalier because by the time practices start up again, he'll be older. Not that being the youngest or second youngest means anything...
It's his team, so why not have him the captain...

He really could've been captain from day one as it's basically been his team from the start. |
