Then again, I guess my views moving more towards anarchy doesn't help me identify with any party. It would just be a wonderful place to live... ;D You'd enjoy my political forum, it's basically me, an outspoken atheist, a brilliant Marxist, a couple of lobbyists, some bright anarachists and then we get visited by random people like 9/11 Truthers, Bill O'Reilly lovers, and other complete idiots. It's a fun time. That sounds like fun man. You should make it a sitcom.

That does sound like some sort of new Woody Allen movie ensemble. I like it, good times, good times....

McCain will drill for oil in the US, therefore, I vote McCain.
It's the democrats stopping us from drilling here and why our oil prices are high. They won't go against the environmentalists.

Their are many people to blame for high oil prices, but the Democratic Party of the United States sure as hell isn't one of them.

I don't ignore the fact that their is Democratic responsibility, but Spartan is presenting the issue as if Democrats are soelly responsible for high gas price.

Which is why people who don't understand economics shouldn't be discussing oil prices.

So anyone who cares about preserving the environment is largely responsible for high gas prices?

You say that like it's a bad thing... When it gets in the way of building things our country actually needs, yes it is. I'm all for protecting animals, but not at my expense. If it was casinos or something of that nature, screw it. But this is a necessary thing.

We should be doing more/have done more but destroying an ecosystem for oil is not worth it. I'm willing to pay a dollar more at the pump so my water is clean, we still have natural beauty in this country, and the ecosystems stay in place.

So we should just waste all of the oil that is available in Colorado? We are sitting on freakin gold. We have a shit load of coal, and a shit load of oil. I know global warming and everything, but can we not do something with it? I just don't understand how research takes this long. I don't get why it takes 10 years to get past environmental issues. Where's hydrogen? Where's solar power? I know we have to have the technology to mass produce, but this stuff didn't come out yesterday. It's been out for years now. Where is it? There's just so many parts to it. I'm starting to think there is no real solution at all.

I didn't read like...any of this thread, nor am I going to but I saw something the oil and the environment and building things we actually need.
Instead of bitching about everything else, why don't we stop these fuckin Wal-Marts first? Like do we really need them for a bunch of fat shits to "save" money while they cost this country job upon job? Hello crappy economy!

Shell is close to a breakthrough. You have to remember this...companies are there to make money. There is a ton of money in that, so when they can get the oil out of the shale effectively, they will! When they can mass produce the alternatives, they will. There is too much money to be made for these companies not to. Greed is good!

Wal-Mart is one of the best things that ever happened for America's poor. Blame the housing bubble bursting, high oil prices, and inflation for our crappy economy. *Which isn't that crappy btw*

What's the whole thing about Alaska only making a .02 difference in 20 years?
I don't get how that would work.

What's the whole thing about Alaska only making a .02 difference in 20 years? I don't get how that would work. It wouldn't add enough supply. So the difference it would make in 20 years is like .02 a gallon of gas. That's not worth going upto the artic and drilling IMo. The Colorado Shale, much more important. I saw a piece the other day that Shell is using steam to force liquified oil out of this shale out in colorado. Promising stuff.

Frankly I don't mind seeing research for energy slowed down if we were making strides in medical fields, like curing cancer or Aids.
