It wasn't that great. I'm serious. Without such a great performance with The Joker, it's just an above average film at best. I just didn't feel all that emotionally connected to any character. Eh, I'll post more later if you want me to... The Joker was still amazing though. Best villian in a movie since Silence of the Lambs. Really surprised you'd say this I had no emotional connections to characters, but thought the performances of Ekhart and Ledger were incredible, that Bale was very good, and that they created a crime film on par with The Departed.

Epic. Joker scares the shit out of me. Whoever plays that guy is the shit. "Whoever plays that guy?" Are we serious here, or am I missing obvious sarcasm?

Really surprised you'd say this I had no emotional connections to characters, but thought the performances of Ekhart and Ledger were incredible, that Bale was very good, and that they created a crime film on par with The Departed. The "crime drama" wasn't really what I felt. More a story about trying to deal with a psychopathic and very public killer. It was much more a question of how to deal with a guy who was no rules and does things that makes you have to play outside your own to survive. The Joker knows the order of how things worked, and used that to one up the good guys every step of the way. The dirty cops were the only thing that had a crime drama type feel. By the end though, it's all about stopping the two psychos (Joker and Two Face) running around killing people. I wasn't blow away by the story. I didn't really see Dent change at all until he has half his body burned to shit. Hell even the scene where he kidnaps one of the Joker's men and takes him to that warehouse, he's just trying to scare him. Funny what a two-heads coin can do for you here. That and the courtroom (and who wouldn't take a punch at him?) were the only places any of the anger that shows Dent's other side shows through. He's suppose to be a guy that has two sides before the transformation and I didn't see much of that. While Eckhart did a very good job acting, the story didn't leave me caring about him, and really he's the most tragic character in the movie. It was a nearly great movie, best film so far this year. It just, wasn't amazing. Wasn't far and away the best movie I've seen in a couple of years as I'm seeing from many people. Basically, I'm just saying it was over hyped and for once it was warranted because it is a good movie. Just not what it's being made out to be.

Basically, I'm just saying it was over hyped and for once it was warranted because it is a good movie. Just not what it's being made out to be. I agree with most of that. They really didn't do anything with Dent's duality except mention his nickname at IA. While he lost everything, his fall seemed too manufactured because of this. Joker was phenomenal. Bale does a great job portraying Batman, but more importantly Bruce Wayne. Older Batman movies always used to gloss over Wayne as a character. Caine is very good as well. Gylenhall is much better than Katie Holmes who has pretty bad. Overall, very good movie. Best this year.

The mishandling of Dent's character is what keeps this movie from greatness. It wasn't bad, but could have been so much better. Drives me crazy.
I think there should be as much or more focus on Wayne. The first movie did a better job of that for my money. They maybe didn't spend enough time (which is hard to say with a 2 1/2 hour run time) on Wayne's conscience in dealing with the Joker. Wayne the man is more central than Batman the symbol. This is really really nit-picky though; because it was done well, just not as well as could have been perhaps.
Gylenhall was worlds better than Holmes. She's the best part of the movie no one is talking about. She was maybe my second favorite performance in the movie. I felt her emotions much more than the rest of them.

Well, so much for the "no spoilers" stuff, eh?

I don't know any specifics either. I saw you were discussing a scene and skipped to the bottom of the page as quickly as I could.

Kinda liked that she wasn't ridiculously hot. I agree with Freak on that, she just gave off this vibe about herself.

Might I add that someone brought a baby to the theater when I went to see it. I am not against taking a baby to a movie, just don't bring a baby to that movie.

Gylenhall is ugly...not as hot as Holmes. That's the only thing I didnt like I've always thought she was cute. So I really didn't have a problem with that. One's a little less attractive, but a much better actress. I'll take that every time.

Fuck you guys, I think she's beautiful. Plus Holmes has a lazy-eye and is a member of a ridiculous cult.
