Moving on.. My POV on the election is that Obama and McCain both suck, but Obama sucks less and he's different for once. To be 100% honest, If Obama wasn't black I think there wouldn't have been such a big deal of everybody voting for him, but he's black so we're stuck with it. And I think Obama is going to look decently long term, because I mean look at what he has to follow up.. Not exactly the best man. The thing is, if Obama was not black, he would not have gotten all the votes he did, not even close. There would have been far less voters as is. And as far as the long-term is concerned, yes he will look better than Bush but only because Bush is a very big reason why Obama was even elected. In general, I have this terrible feeling about Obama and believe he'll be worse than Bush was. It's Bush' fault though so...

For once... I think I actually agree with Spartan on this.
I voted Obama yesterday. I supported him.
However, when I read that joke, I didn't laugh... but I didn't start freaking out thinkin Spartan is a terrible person.
I have many black friends. Many... the majority of my friends are... I hear the word used on a regular basis, so maybe I just do not have such a horrid view on the term like some of you may.
But still, lets quit overreacting about this.
Spartan, you shouldn't have posted it. Although a joke, people can take offense to it. Everyone else, quit overreacting. He meant it as a joke, nothing more. Get your panties out of a bunch..
End of that topic. Proceed with the original one.

Blacks go Democrat at a huge clip anyway, so really only a small number were swayed to Obama because he was black. They were there anyway. There probably would have been less voters, but not much. The Dems were energized as is and the GOP was not and never got that way.

The thing that still gets me is what makes Barack Obama qualified for the president. I know he was won already, but John McCain went to the Naval academy and served until 1981 and he was in the senate in 1982. This man has dedicated his life for our country but yet, we choose someone we hardly know anything about and is no where near experienced as his opponet.

So Obama got 95% of the black vote. Imagine the cries if 95% of whites had voted for mccain. I think this is something that needs to be looked at by everybody. Especially the people who say "it's not about race". I am not racist at all but these numbers shouldn't have happened. 95%...are you kidding me...there is NO WAY that 95% of black people can AGREE and LIKE Obama's plans. I don't remember the white numbers but I think 47% of whites voted for Obama.

And really, what are the criteria for one to be qualified for President?

It's a known fact that a very large portion of Blacks do not vote. There were buses of black people driven to the polls in some states. Find the numbers on how many people voted this year vs. recent poll years, I don't feel like doing it.

But did it change the election's result?
My gut says no.

There probably would have been less voters, but not much. The Dems were energized as is and the GOP was not and never got that way. Its not just black (although that helped significantly in terms of how many showed up to vote), but all minorities. CNN exit polls has 6% more blacks voting democrat (89-95) 12% more latinos 6% more asian 14% more other non-white They also report just over 127M votes counted with 26% minority, so 33.1M minority voters roughly. 2004 saw 23% minority voters overall and about 120M total votes, so about 28M minority voters. That's nearly a 20% increase in turnout.

But did it change the election's result? My gut says no. No, this is in reply to the idea that if he hadn't been black, there wouldn't have been a problem with everyone voting for him. But he would not have received all the votes he did have he not have been black. The numbers in minorities as david has posted went up big time and were for Obama and I'd imaging the number of voters from ages 18-25 probably went up as well and I can say from what I saw around campuses and such, that they probably went mostly to Obama as well.

Personally, I think Obama will try to do too much. I think he is going to try to "change" too many things and get in way over his head, leaving the next president to deal with it all.

As soon as McCain gets elected, he's going to die of old age I am deeply offended by this. Just because he's old doesn't mean he will die in office. Stereotype! C'mon, seriously blaze? Are you really that offended by this? I could understand you not thinking it's funny, but really? Because I thought it was funny I'm immature and I hate Obama? jesus christ sparty. I said what I said in order to clear shit up. You came out questioning why Joker and others were offended and wanted an answer. I'm sure when you asked joker why it affected him, i saw it as you saying "hey, he's not black. What makes him so pissed off at me?". If you knew that statement was fucked up, why even post it. Like I said, I cooled down and was explaining why this "joke" is not a joke to some. i was trying to clear up the air since you wanted answers and since you failed to realize why the joke was so bad.

I do want to say the city of Hazleton is pretty lame. They did not at all guide Spanish citizens to polling places, or provide proper assistance with voting. Few places had a translator on hand to help explain the voting process. Bullshit much.
