You can think my favorite band is a joke and that is fine by me. The reason why it seems that you like them so much is that you demand to know why they are abysmal.
I feel I am in a better position to say who has the best music at least in part because I listen to many bands. I am not the one who posted that I didn't know any of these bands. I at least like to think of myself as partially educated in music.
If you want to knock my favorite bands, by all means do so. I am not saying that you cannot have an opinion. I am saying that your opinion is not as credible because you only look at a small part of the music world.
And it isn't that you lack taste entirely. I am sure you have fine taste but when you express it in one sense with a band that receives so much widespread criticism as Nickelback, I have to throw aforementioned taste into question.

And who are you to determine who has the best music? Because I don't like your music, I have no taste? Am I not allowed to think that your favorite bands are a joke? We're not, but when you like Nickelback you've lost all right to have good taste. It's not just us, it's a Man Law.

So because I have never heard of the 20-25 at the most bands listed in here, I only look at a small portion of music in the world and I know nothing about music?
And because I like a band that everyone hates? Maybe everyone hates ur bands. Obviously not on this board, but I'm sure most of America hasn't heard of these.

I'm really sorry you're so closed-minded, Spartan. Some of these albums are great. Shame you won't even pretend to be open-minded about it and try to listen to them.

It at least means you are not up to the times. To be honest, a lot of people have heard of these bands. We all come from different backgrounds yet know them. They would not be on other "best of" lists if they were not heard of. I am willing to bet most of America knows about Kanye West and they manage to get news of Coldplay under their rocks.
The small portion bit is true. Lots of these bands span many genres and would be heard of by somebody who listens to music in any of the said genres because of their quality. Your taste is knocked because you do not know what is generally agreed upon as the best. If you do not know the best, how do you expect to know the worst.
I can sit here and try and name the best Spartans. However, if I name a third string guard and say they are the best, my opinion is shit. Why? Because I obviously do not know anything about the Spartans. I can argue him as the best but it won't mean a thing because I don't know anything about his peers.
Overall, if you don't know these bands on a BEST of list and try to claim a critically poor band is fine, then we are going to say your opinion sucks.
I am sorry you cannot hold an open mind like previously mentioned and I am also sorry you cannot accept that people will disagree with you on sound reasoning.

Just because I like a band that gets bad reviews from critics does not mean they suck. They sell a shit ton of albums so obviously something is going right. Don't tell me my taste in music sucks because I haven't heard of
-Jenny Lewis -Bayside -Marnie Stem -Mutyumu -Bon Iver
I actually like the Killers and Kanye West. I've heard coldplay and they do nothing for me. Just because you listen to more music than I do, does not mean that I have no taste. Just because some critics don't like the music does not mean it sucks. How do you know the quality of music? Does anybody really have a say in the quality of music? There is no right or wrong in music. None. It is all different. To say that my opinion and taste in music sucks because it's not yours or a critics is a fucking joke.
Most of the nation does not support gay marriage. Does that mean the way they want to live their life sucks because a few people feel that way?

The majority is generally stupid imo.
I'm basing this off my own taste. I could care less what the critics have to say about anything, my ears tell me what's good. Popular music right now just is not for the most part. Coldplay is ok, The Killers are pretty good, and I mean love some T.I. but overall it's just bad. The good music being made today is underground imho. Those bands you mentioned are well worth listening to Sparty. I'm just saying do it. Break from the popular stuff, you'll thank yourself for it.

Spartan, your arguments are easier to pick apart than the Detroit Lions' secondary. Just because an artist sells a shitton of albums means they're good now? ABBA has sold over 200 million records worldwide, but you don't see me defending them either. And we never said you had no taste, we said you had BAD taste. Nickelback represents everything wrong with music. And people are even more annoyed because you show no indication or interest in trying out some of the great albums we've listed. You don't know what you're missing. This is like arguing with a rock, so I'm done here.

Just because I like a band that gets bad reviews from critics does not mean they suck. They sell a shit ton of albums so obviously something is going right. Hannah Montana sells a shit ton of albums. Don't tell me my taste in music sucks because I haven't heard of -Jenny Lewis -Bayside -Marnie Stem -Mutyumu -Bon Iver Jenny Lewis is the lead member of Rilo Kiley, who've opened for Coldplay, amongst others. Furthermore, she is ridiculously hot. No excuses on this one I hate Bayside, but that's because I think Anthony Ranieri has the amazing ability to sing about any topic and convey zero emotion through his voice. Marnie Stern I wouldn't expect the average person on the street to know about, but her album certainly has made waves. No one should know about Mutyumu, that's okay. Bon Iver has been on nearly ever TV show, have killed a bunch of performances, have stolen the show at plenty of festivals, and are probably the most incredible act in music at the moment. You don't HAVE to know about every artist. It's about being willing to try other stuff. For instance, I know DB's a guy who has enough love for classic rock that he probably doesn't need to listen to new music. However, occasionally I'll hear albums that I think he'd really enjoy, and he takes the effort to check them out. I actually like the Killers and Kanye West. I've heard coldplay and they do nothing for me. Just because you listen to more music than I do, does not mean that I have no taste. I am going to try to listen to some of this stuff that you guys have listed. I just don't think it is fair to say that I have bad taste because I like a band that you guys don't.
Where is a good place to start?

I don't get why people feel the need to be all hot shit about the type of music they listen to and care about what others listen to. If they're listening to something they probably enjoy it so who cares.
BTW keeper I did try your top 20 list or something you posted last year and liked a few of the songs.

I am going to try to do that again this year, definitely no where near as good as last year was, but hopefully I can put together a quick little playlist of stuff people will enjoy.

Where is a good place to start? Depends on what you like now. Throw a list together of some of your favorite bands. I'm sure between all of us, we'll be able to find some stuff that relates and opens you to some new avenues to explore.
