I found this on another forum and thought I'd share:
You all have the Heisman. We just kind of agree, honestly, who the best player is. This year, it was a tie between McFadden and Russell. We don't care a thing about the Heisman because it's not really about who the best player is. We don't have a formal meeting in a big city to give out the award. We just kind of all agree. Afterall, it's about the team anyway.
Michigan has won more games than anyone. But, that is because they have played much longer than a lot of teams. In the last 75 years (most all of the major programs have been around that long) - a southern team (Tennessee) has more wins than any program.
Brent Musburger and Keith Jackson repeating it over and over again, year after year, does not make it true. The Rose Bowl is not, and has never been, "the granddaddy of them all." The Sugar Bowl is.
The school out west is Southern Cal. USC is the school in Columbia.
ESPN's "brightest" repeating it often still does not make it true. The best rivalry in football is not Michigan and Ohio State. It's either Alabama/Auburn or Ole Miss/Mississippi State or Georgia/Georgia Tech or USC/Clemson.
The greatest plays of all time did not involve Doug Flutie or the Stanford band. LSU had a hand in both - 1. a last second bomb at Kentucky and 2. when one of the greatest RB's of all time (Billie Cannon) was stopped on four consecutive downs on the one by General Neyland's Vols.
We're pretty sure that the best coaches ever were the Bear, the General, Shug and Dodd.
The extreme of football is not 25 degrees in December, it's 92 degrees in September.
The best day in college football comes every other year. When the Tide rolls into Rocky Top - when the leaves are brilliant and the sky is stark blue. When a big orange ball reflects off the River. The 3rd Saturday of October.
Bo, Herschel, Doug Atkins, Manning x3, the Snake, Broadway, Reggie White, Emmit Smith, LeRoy Jordan, Y.A. Tittle, Billie Cannon - these are the legends.
Passion is known best in places like the Grove or in Columbia - where there's not always a lot of winning - but there's always hope. And winning is a tradition all over the place - on the Plains, in the Bayou, at the Capstone, on the Tennessee River, in the Swamp, at the slop troft and between the Hedges.
If ya'll ain't a Farmer, Hillbilly, Bammer, Coonass, Dawg, Cowboy, Redneck, Swamprat or true gentleman - then you have no clue what football really means.

This is seps first meaningful post! ... and he copied it. Typical biased "American" opinion. There's a lot of good football out there, there's more to it than the SEC. They're just the tip of the iceberg. I agree that they do football pretty well there, don't get me wrong, but we Northerners can play football and cheer for it too.

Let me see how an SEC team performs in sub-freezing temperatures, and maybe I'll agree. But there's a better chance of hell freezing over than me agreeing. That might've been some of the dumbest opinions ever in that post. I'd expect it from a southerner, though. I've lived here for two years, and I can honestly say that southerners are much more arrogant than northerners.

I can honestly say that southerners are much more arrogant than northerners. Northerns, and every one of them have to have their name brand crap. They all think there stuff dont stink. Penn State fans were giving FSU fans the finger when they did the chop at the orange bowl. FSU fans did nothing while Penn State did there stupid jumping up and down. Cleveland fans throw beer bottles on the players. Eagle fans throw beer bottles on Santa Claus. Duke, Maryland, and Wake Forrest say "we are going to kick the shit out of you, and you, and you" Maryland's student sections holds up a newspaper while the other teams starting 5 is being announced. Need I go on?

I'm sure I could come up with just as many if not more examples about the South. But I was just making an inference from my time here, and my time in the North.
Edit: And how are two colleges in Carolina in the North?

Umm.. pretty sure I can perform a lot better in warmer conditions and when my hands aren't about to fall off catching passes or snaps.
That is the biggest load of BS I have heard.
O and saying USC was incorrect because that was South Carolina, that is just being a smart ass.

Just because you may have witnessed a couple isolated incidents, doesn't mean other teams or doing the same thing. Every contingent has its poor sports and it is not really fair to generalize an entire team based on the couple thousand who may have acted like jerks.

Gator hand-clap thing, FSU Stereotype Chop thing, Da U "Gangsta Symbol" thing. I just tore through Florida, and your opinions, like a tornado. Also, you have the Texas "Hook 'Em Horns" thing, and countless others to mention.
Who doesn't jump up and down? Hell, even FSU jumps up and down. I'm sure if they had some stupid "Nittany Lion Chop" thing, FSU fans would be chomping at the bit to give them the finger.
Pro fans. Different story.
Thank you for making Sportsbuck's point.
They probably swear the most out of student sections in America. And they're more South than North.
Please do, you're making our point quite nicely.

all i'm going to say in the matter is: i'd like to see the best team in either the Big Ten or the Pac 10 play eight SEC teams in one season, and let me know what you think of the SEC
all i've seen out of the best in the Pac 10 (Southern Cal) is that they barely beat a team that got crushed by not even the SEC's best (Washington State: Lost to Auburn 40-14)
meanwhile, Southern Cal, the powerhouse, had no trouble beating "One of the best in the SEC" (Arkansas) when arguably the best running back in all of college football was hurt, and the Razorbacks didn't have their team completely set
so, let Southern Cal play 8 SEC games, and let any team in the SEC, even Vandy, play a Pac 10 schedule, and we'll see who fares better
as for OSU, got crushed by Florida, never had a chance, end of story, Michigan can't hold a candle to Southern Cal, who can't hold a candle to the SEC's best team, and Wisconsin did barely beat Arky, who still would win that game 9 out of 10 times

I swear to god if I hear another "Let's see them play an SEC schedule" argument I will go through the roof.
So I'll counter. Let's see an SEC team win a game in sub-freezing temperatures, and in the snow.

Uh, North Carolina isn't in the north? Seriously, anything north of Alexandria is considered Yankee country. Oh and the SEC is still the best conference in the nation, and yes southern football is better. This subfreezing nonsense isn't any more valid than saying other teams couldn't handle the SEC schedule. They're are plenty of games in the 40s and even 30s in some places late in the year and they handle it fine. Yes it's a bit colder up north, but the fact of the matter is that they would adjust. Seriously, it's a joke to think any team is going just crumble because it's cold is foolish. The post Sep made is in jest. I did agree with the best weekend thing though. The Third Saturday in October is classic and pretty much the most underrated rivalry in the country. Awesome. Oh and still southern football is better. It's true, the fans are more drunk, and have more passion. This is strictly opinion, but it's just better.

It is very underrated. Maybe it will get back into the discussion of best rivalries with its return to the actual day it should be played on. The Third Saturday in October.

Its because they got extremly better as the season wore on. Guarantee if those two teams played each other in a bowl, it would have been much closer.

Look... Football is football. Southern football is no better than Northern football, because it's all football. Western football is just as good as Eastern football too. So stop with the supremacist crap.
And sep, you're from Iowa. Not the South. So shut your freakin' mouth.

Quit bringing up how supposedly great you are...jeez. Well, we are. ;D Arkansas caught a lot of breaks to make the SEC Championship. Alabama missed an extra point, and three field goals to give Arky a one point win. They caught Auburn sleeping, and were able to to Darren McFadden Tennessee into a loss. They were missing a quarterback, but had McFadden to at least make them good. USC was a much better team (as good as the two best in the SEC) and it showed. Honestly, there's just a lot of passion from the fans. The level of football was better this year, and the SEC is generally one of the best every year. The Big Ten is still very good, and normally so is the ACC and Big XII. We live in the south, and football is just our biggest thing. So we have a little pride about it, but some of the Big Ten and other schools have just as much. We're just obnoxious about it.
