Flanagan was not going to be brought back under any circumstances. He had a sports hernia for the entire year and only played half the season or so...while the offensive line was a mess last season, it wasn't because of the center position. Flanagan is in his 30's now, so his best days are behind him...the Packers weren't about to break the bank (aka screwing up a good cap situation) by signing a 30-year old offensive lineman with a history of injury problems. Scott Wells did more than a good job as a center last season.
Not throwing huge contracts at Rivera and Wahle last season was a reason why the offensive line stunk last year, but it's given the Packers a huge amount of cap room. Now that Ted Thompson has that amount of cap room, he's made it clear that just because he has it doesn't mean he has to spend it all this year - that's how teams get into salary cap hell.
He sees signing free agents as a long-term investment, which is why he's signing young guys like Marquand Manuel and Ryan Pickett and staying away from guys like Keyshawn Johnson, who will demand a high salary but won't put up better numbers than a guy they could get that wouldn't jeopardize the team's cap down the road.
As for addressing the Offensive Line, the Packers seemingly always take an offensive lineman in the later rounds - this goes back to the Ron Wolf days. The only area that really needs to be addressed is the guard position, since that's where the problems came from last year. Scott Wells will do a good job at center, and they still have Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher at the tackles. Clifton can also move inside if need be. Honestly, Ted Thompson is more likely to address the Javon Walker problem before he goes out and throws money at some aging lineman.

Seahawks sign WR Nate Burleson to 7 year deal, presumably to replace Joe Jurevicius.

More old News nobody posted . Will Allen signed a 4 year deal with the Miami Dolphins. He signed to replace Sam Madison, who was signed by the Giants, where Allen just left from.

I never knew a receiver who was primed for a break-out year and was totally outplayed by nearly ever receiver on his team could get a 7 year/49 million dollar contract.

From what I've read, there is no way that Burleson will see $49 million from that contract. The offer sheet he signed with the Seahawks said that the only way he would be guaranteed all that money is if he played 5 or more games in Minnesota and/or his total yardage surpasses that of all the team's running backs combined. Those "poison pill" clauses were thrown in to scare off the Vikings - the same exact tactic the Vikings used to more or less steal Hutchinson. If the Vikings were to match that offer sheet, Burleson would obviously play more than 5 games in Minnesota and they would have to pay him the entire contract.
In all honesty, the 7 year, $49 mill deal will last a couple years until they rework his deal to something that makes more sense. In terms of replacing Jurevicious, he's got more talent than Jurevicious does, but he just has to be put into the right situation. Two years ago, Burleson was a great #2/3 receiver with a good receiver drawing most of the coverage. Last year, he was getting doubled and the Vikings really had no running game at all to cut him a little slack.
The $49 million is overdoing it a little, but don't forget that Burleson will most likely only see like $10 million from that contract before it's ripped up.

Also they are to meet with Charles Woodson this week, and gave Favre til saturday to make a decision. Plus Javon Walker has said he wants out of GB.

Supposedly, the Eagles made an offer to Green Bay for Javon. I don't even know why they bothered to offer. It was a 3rd Round Pick and Hollis Thomas for him.

I guess so. Also, rumor has it that Eric Moulds has interest in Philadelphia. It would cost the Eagles a third/fourth round pick. I don't think they will do that. They have 6 receivers on the roster already. They will only go in with 5. Reggie Brown (1st Rounder), Todd Pinkston (Stretch Man), Greg Lewis (Big Contract), Jabar Gaffney (Fresh Signing), Billy McMullen (Some Poetential), Dernerian McCants (I Have No Idea)

I heard about that offer, too, and it wouldn't have made any sense for the Packers to make that trade. That would be a trade that they would make if they were desperate to get something for him if they felt like they had to trade him. Thankfully, the Packers are more than happy to play "career chicken" with Javon. He says he'd rather retire than play for the Packers? Fine. Go right ahead and destroy your own life, Javon. The Packers really couldn't care less about him and his demands...they've stated that they will not trade him. Now Robert Ferguson, on the other hand, is available. I've heard rumors of the Texans being interested if they don't get Moulds...something like a 5th round pick for him or something.

Yeah I have been on the Eagles Message Board like mad and supposedly an Eric Moulds trade is to be completed within the next 48 hours. I just don't want the Eagles to try to get Javon and give up Rod Hood. The Eagles need Rod Hood to try and push Lito Sheppard.

Even though Walker says he would rather retire than play another season in Green Bay for his rookie contract (which pays him about $500,000 per year) and play with Brett Favre, I am 95% sure that Ted Thompson won't pull that trigger unless they get another receiver in return. As for Charles Woodson, I'm not sure that's a guy I want in the Packers lockerroom with a rookie coach and a young team, unless he does some major personality reconstruction. On another note, with Moulds leaving Buffalo, it looks like my man Lee Evans (Wisky grad ) is going to be the #1 receiver for the Bills.

A 49er's fan website had an article up supposedly from a Sacremento newspaper saying the 49er's accquired Javon Walker for the 49er's second round pick.
