God, that's pretty desperate. Well, if the Cubs play like the 1908 Cubs or whenever they last one it, the Cubs, at best with tons of luck, will only get 3 of 4, and that'll be enough...

Philly is one game back..... for philly to get in outright, yes.... but the way the Stros play against the Cubs, a one-game playoff is not out of the question at all

ok, so I see that the Stros lost and the Phils won, so now it is a tie...dont they each have 3 more games?

no, not a tie.... Stros 1 game up, and 2 games left for each team

Ok, I dont' normally float around the MLB boards but yall gotta quit taking these shots at my 'stros. Rocket will go tomorrow, thats gonna be a close game but Houston will probably lose (we never do give him any support when he pitches)(he has all of 12 wins with a 1.89 era)(8 times this year the Astro's have been shut out when he started) anyhow, I will still be pulling for them though losing the Pettite start really hurts...gonna need O to take the last one for us.... and if you phillies wouldn't mind losing once in a while, be much appriciated.

I'm not hating on Houston, I just hate to see the Phillies lose. If the Stros do make the playoffs, I'm not gonna pout I'll give credit where it is due.

Man, if it somehow gets to a one game playoff, Philly has a realistic chance. There's no way Houston will be able to get one of their big 3 on the mound, seeing how they're pitching the last 3 games (including the one last night) of the season. But I still don't know if Philly can hit ANYONE on the Astros staff anyways...

Backe would probably start in a playoff, I believe he's next the rotation. He had a middle of the road start at Philly a few weeks back.... not horrible, not good. I think that's the only time he faced Philadelphia.
If Garner wanted to go out on a limb, maybe you pitch Astacio...... this kid will be one of the replacements for Clemens/Pettitte and has a hell of an arm, but he's wicked young and has no experience in situations like this. He's struggled with Houston in 10 or so starts, but I don't think any one of the Phillys has faced him - he spent his time in the PCL, Philly's minor league team is in the International, right? I saw him pitch twice in Round Rock this year, was awesome in both starts, and had scouts ALL over the place looking at him because they knew he was coming. He's one of the few pitchers I've ever seen in the 100's in person.

The stros will go with Backe, and probably have Wandy Rodriguez ready if Backe gets in early trouble.

Nope...If the Sox win tomorrow, and Cleveland loses the sox are the WC. But if the Sox win and Cleveland wins then they have a playoff for WC. And if Sox lose and Cleveland wins they have a playoff for WC.
So either way Sox will have a playoff on Monday, or be in as the WC. They can no longer win the division.

No. If Boston wins tomorrow they win the WC, no matter what Cleveland does. They are a game up on the Indians for the WC. The worst the Bosox can do is have a one game playoff for the WC in Boston.
