Of course you mean an improvement over the 3rd they came last year, right? No, an improvement in wins. Just not enough to qualify for postseason play.

Boston/Toronto might be the best interdivision battle in the league this upcoming year. With Boston slipping just a little, and with Toronto's whirlwind off-season, there is possibility we could see a playoffs without one of the two (BoSox/Yanks) in it. No one in the AL West or Central seems like they might be able to step up and possibly steal the WC either.

I still think the Jays are a year away...all that new talent needs some time to gel, so they might get off to a slow start, but that's just my opinion. This would be the year to slip into second place, however, with the Red Sox having such a crazy offseason between the Manny saga, the Epstein saga, trading for Andy Marte and keeping him for like two months before trading him, losing Damon (which isn't as big a deal as ESPN is making it out to be), and gaining Coco Crisp in the Marte trade.

It has been a crazy offseason. In regards to Manny, I don't think any Boston fan cares anymore. We don't care if he is high, drunk, late, as long as he hits .300, 30-40 HRS, 130 RBI. He's done it so far with everything swirling around him. I like the pitching depth and the improved defense on the left. Despite M. Lowell's awful offensive season, he was still a gold glover. As good as Mueller was, that is an upgrade. Anything he gives us at the plate is gravy. Fans will be going nuts if he hits .270, 15 HR, 70 RBI. Marte looks like he will be a monster, but Crisp is 25 and proven. He looks like he should only improve, and he's got a great name.

Offseason: B-
Prediction: 3rd in AL East
Personally, I believe the Orioles have a better team now, then the start of last year's season. Sure, it could be biased because I am a die hard Orioles fan, but they did decent this offseason. We picked up Kris Benson, which fits in perfectly in our young developing pitching staff. And, we picked up two veterans, Jeff Conine and Kevin Millar. They aren't the best, but they bring experience, and hopefully a good bat this year. Hopefully, Corey Patterson has a season like 2004, not like last year.
The biggest acquisition for the Orioles was pitching coach Leo Mazzone. He was former Altanta Braves pitching coach, and is hands down one of the best pitching coaches in the majors today. He will work well with Bedard and Cabrera, trying to mold them into young stars.
I do not believe the Orioles will make the playoffs, or even finish above 500. They did not go out and get that big starter they needed. I do not think they can compete with the Red Sox and Yankees, and the Blue Jays had a tremendous off-season.
If the Orioles can click, and Miguel, Mora, Roberts, and Lopez get the bats going, they could have a swell year. Injuries always hurt though.
We will see how it turns it this year, I am excited.

Sorry that I did not include it. But, I believe the Red Sox will drop off in contention this year. Now, I know I am going to get hammered by the Red Sox fans here, but let's face it, you guys have down graded tremendously this off-season. I mean, you lost great lead-off hitter Johnny Damon, and replaced him with Coco Crisp. Alex Gonzalez is a weak shortstop, not in the same caliber as Edgar Renteria. Mike Lowell hit under .250 last year, and I think will be a huge bust. The pitching is eh. I mean Curt Schilling, I don't know if he still will have it in him. David Wells is going to be 43 years old. I don't know, I just think the Red Sox are getting old. Blue Jays had a great off-season, better than my Orioles . But, Yankees will still be number 1 because of their great offense. They will probably win games like 10-8 all year, because there pitching staff is old as well. Tampa Bay will finish out at the bottom, sorry Tampa fans but again there was no major acquisition. P.S. This is my opinion, if you don't like it that is fine. We can agree to disagree ;D.

Pretty good except if the Barry Bonds* led Giants put on a good show, it could spell trouble for the Dodger blue.

How well do you guys think a Cardinals vs. Mets and A's vs. Indians Championship Series do in terms of ratings?
I think the NL Ratings do well because you have a large market and a lot of big names like Pujols and Pedro. I don't think the AL one does too well because of small market teams.

Baseball is not really my game, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.
I was happy with what I saw out of the Red Sox today. Well I should say the two innings I saw out of the Red Sox today. The only thing that worried me was that Foulke did not look up to speed today. The Rangers were really hammering anything they got a hold of from him. That 9th inning though did allow Coco Crisp to make a fantastic catch on the warning track. Sure it is Opening Day, but it is always nice to start out with a win.
For my prediction, Boston finishes 2nd and gets the AL Wild card. Pretty bold, no?

For my prediction, Boston finishes 2nd and gets the AL Wild card. Pretty bold, no? That is kind of bold, cause for me it really comes down to Indians, Angels, Blue Jays, and the darkhorse the Red Sox for the wildcard. And then you go and look at who will get the most 'easy' wins, and I'd have to with the Angels playing the Rangers and Mariners all those times.

The Red Sox aren't really a dark horse at all. They're pitching staff is still better than the Yankees, and their offense isn't all that much worse than last year...

What Coco Crisp doesn't have in terms of hitting that Johnny Damon does (which isn't all that much, really), he makes up with some great defense. Johnny Damon throws like a girl.

Coco Crisp is nasty. Kid can run around the bases and outfield faster than anyone. I was watching the game today, and he would score from first on a double before they got the ball to the infield. I am gonna go out and say that I think he'll have a better year than Damon.

He runs a 4.23 40. And the Red Sox are not the darkhorses. Perhaps not the favorites, but by no means out of the picture.
