Have any of you heard how Scott Boras plans to market him if he opts out? It is crazy. He says A-Rod can play to age 45, so he will hold the HR record and Hits record. I swear, if A-Rod opts out and gets a huge contract, in comparison to his current one, baseball is going to suffer big time.

Scott Boras and A-Rod are idiots. Just sayin', this is part of the reason I don't care if he leaves. He doesn't do shit in the playoffs and he likes to have some random slides that hurt the rest of the team. He obviously brings drama, see 2004, 2005, and 2006. Shit Mike Lowell already said he wouldn't ruling out playing in NY, he's old but he's still alright for NOW and a hell of a lot cheaper than A-Rod. If he wants to leave, see ya!

the next contract won't be anywhere near what Texas gave him...A-Rod is the only one who will lose if he opts out

As it pertains to a per-year-deal, he'll come close and honestly, he's smart for opting out simply because he can't deal with the pressure in NY. Not nearly as dumb as people think.

What team honestly has the money or the type of Owner/GM to pay him what he wants? He wants more than what he's getting already.

cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10398812See ya! Time for a new friggin' era of the Yankees anyway. Wherever he goes, he's not gonna win unless he's in New York. Kinda funny to see the hypocritical Red Sox fans talking about buying his ass too. HA! I see Chicago for this man.

You know who needs to sign him? A struggling small market team like Florida. Say he gets a 10 year $300 million contract. They would only need to get $30 million in ticket sales + merchandise sales + sponsorship money per year for this to be a profitable move, not to mention the publicity, television exposure, and international presence you gain by making such a move. Plus there's the fact that you would win more games and get postseason bonus money.

Money-grubbers like Boras represent much of what's wrong with baseball today.

Kruk said on baseball tonight that it's possible he'll get somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 years, $150 mil, which puts him earning more per-season that he does now (scary considering he already makes $25 mil a year)

Wouldn't it be funny if...no one signed him? That is, if he does in fact opt out.

Boras needs the Yanks to be in the mix. The Yanks said they won't go after A-Rod if he opts out.
Someone is bluffing.

Anyone watching sportscenter now? Buster Olney just said what I did a week ago about ARod to Florida.

Anyone watching sportscenter now? Buster Olney just said what I did a week ago about ARod to Florida. But the difference is, you were dreaming. What makes ANYONE think Florida'll spend that much on A-Rod, especially for a long-term commitment? Based on recent history, I don't see that coming close to occurring.

Buster looked awake on TV.
Maybe I was his source.

I wouldn't necessarily take Florida out of the A-Rod running. They have a money to spend, they're lobbying for a new stadium, they need a superstar to draw the fans and A-Rod is a Florida native. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up a Marlin.

Ramirez - Rodriguez - Cabrera = best hitting trio of our generation. They definitely have money to spend since they save up instead of tossing $60MM to JD Drew. Plus this would solidify a stadium deal and I know they would make back the salary with ticket, merchandise, sponsorship, etc. revenues.
And I speculated over a week ago. Olney needs to get his stuff together.

I don't doubt that Florida has the resources. I DO doubt that they'll actually use them....as long as Loria's in charge of the wallet...

Because I hate baseball and the way they handle business with allowing the players to be in complete control, I'm hoping A-Rod can make it into the $300M range at least. Nothing would be funnier than having the best player in the league (and potentially the best of all time) destroying the game entirely. Johan Santana isn't that old either is he? Is there anything stopping him from 9 figures this off-season? Clearly he's worth so much more than Barry Zito is.
I'm hoping that more money is spent on free agents this year than every other year combined. Sure that will be tough, but I'm sure Boston and New York and a few other teams can at least make this easily the most expensive off-season ever...
