So then you're saying who's the best defensive player at the position, because I'm pretty sure if anyone that wasn't biased had to take any 3B in the league right now they'd take A-Rod. No, I just don't believe someone should be considered the best at their position solely on offensive stats.

Who would you rather have, a shortstop who contributes 90 runs on offense and costs his team 8 runs on defense, or a shortstop who contributes 66 runs on offense and contributes 8 runs on defense? I want the first guy. Your argument sounds like you want the second guy because he is a more "well-rounded" player. Go ahead and answer this question with "the second guy" so we all know you are arguing something completely different than the rest of us.

Forget it, you're all misunderstanding this entire thing. OFFENSE does not make someone the best at their position, it can make them the best in the league or whatever, but not at their position. wat So a player can be the best player in the league, but not the best player at his position? You're right that we're all misunderstanding everything that you're saying.

my opinion is this....although he doesn't play the position anymore A-Rod is the best shortstop..Rollins is second... Jeter third... Jeter isn't a defensive liability so he's good, but not on the same level as A-Rod was at the position

yankeehtr, go back in your little hole... that's just silly.
Loki you put an incredibly amount of weight on defensive numbers (errors for crying out loud?)... I don't see how you can just fault Hanley for having 20 errors in a season when Jeter had the EXACT same problem when he entered the league (and if I remember correctly Hanley is younger than Jeter was when he entered the league). What makes you think Hanley's whole career is going to be hindered by the fact that Derek Jeter, 10 seasons into his career, finally became a decent fielder based on having less errors?
