All I have to say in regards to the Isles is thank god for them that they got rid of Mike Milbury. He is one of the worst GM's I have ever seen. He's traded away talent like Todd Bertuzzi, Darius Kasparaitis, Roberto Luongo, Zdeno Chara, Wade Redden, etc. because he's impatient and stupid. Good luck to the Isles. Indeed. Gotta love that Valeri Bure acquisition! Flyers had a very nice pickup of Geoff Sanderson. He's seemed to bring back some of that offense he had early in his career, and should have an early impact. The thing that's best about him is that for a guy in his mid-30s, he's got tremendous speed (which Philly lacks) and a great slap-shot. Flyers fans will quickly appreciate what he can do...

Ed Belfour is now expected to sign with Florida. Also, Scott Walker traded to the Canes from Nashville for Josef Vasicek.

Sami Kapanen's brother Niko signs with the Thrashers for 2 years 1.7M... I hope him the best there. He's one of my favorite young players that just hasn't quite made it yet. But he plays with heart, and I hope he does well in Atlanta...
Sabres will have an arbitration hearing with Briere today...
Keith Primeau has officially announced he will attempt to comeback after his concussion last year... you gotta hope he does well
Oilers gave Craig MacTavish a 4 year extension after leading the Oilers to a Cup...

I hope we re-up Briere, not just sign and trade him. With all the young talent Buffalo has, we can be a force for years if we can manage to keep some of it.

I would be ****ing pissed if we didn't keep him. He's the future of this team... any my favorite player...
If Afinegenov gets it going offensively, our first line is going to be unstoppable...

doesn't that mean he is underrated? What's there to rate him highly on? If he's not helping his team, what good is he doing? Don't get me wrong, I think he's still got potential, but people are selling him off now that he's a few years in his career and hasn't done much. If you want an underrated Sabre, look at Derek Roy. He's one of my favorites, but is in the shadows of the front lines. Put him up in the top 2 lines, and he'll give you even better lines. Also, a guy I REALLY want to see in blue and gold is Lubomir Visnovsky. He slowed down near the end of the season, but in the first half of the season he was unstoppable. 56 points in 58 games for a defensemen is pretty damn good. He also had a hattrick one game too. He's a little small, but is the ideal defensemen you want on a powerplay... ------------------- Anyways, Boston signed some enforcers in Jeff Hoggan, Mike York and Wade Brookbank. Along with Chara, Boston doesn't look like a fun team to play. They're gonna be tough. Jordin Tootoo, one of the fastest players in the game and possibly a lethal offensive threat in the future resigned with the Predators, along with the previously mentioned Wade Brookbank's brother Sheldon, and some scrub winger from Atlanta... Jarrett Stoll resigns with Edmonton... smart move, obviously, as Stoll is "Derek Roy-esque" in that his potential was low but puts up great numbers for a lowline center.

I know it is not the same, but when you are down and putting on a hard attack it is nice to have him, and also on powerplays like mentioned above. A good point shot is always a huge help on the powerplay.

Well the Devils are now in a dilemna. Scott Gomez reportedly asked for a 1 year 7M deal at his arbitration meeting, which is well above what New Jersey was expecting. He's probably worth around $4M at this point, maybe slightly higher (I personally think lower), but 7 is a crazy figure.
With that in mind, if the Devils give in, that means that Brian Gionta and Brian Leetch will both get cheaper paydays, which is undeserving for their services, seeing how they will get paid much cheaper and produce much more. If I'm the Devils GM, I'm looking around the league and shopping Gomez in hopes for a sign and trade or possibly keep him until the deadline and deal him or just dump him altogether now. 80+ points is nice, but that kind of money will be for the Ovechkins and Staals, not the soon to be 2nd line centers.
I'm beginning to think that arbitration meetings are just going to completely destroy the cap system. If salaries continue to keep driving up in these meetings, the guys upstairs better do something about it. I'm scared to think how guys like Briere and Afinegenov are taking these.

Pretty big day today...
Ed Belfour has finally signed with the Panthers. It's been expected for weeks, and now the deal had fnally been finalized. Luongo is better, but adding Bertuzzi was a must, seeing how dysfuntional that offense was. Best move the Panthers could have made IMO...
Mark Recchi comes back to Pittsburg fresh after winning a cup with the Canes after being traded there by the Pens. Very good pickup for the Pens, who've been picking up nobody's all summer...
The Sharks resigned Christian Erhoff, who could have a breakout offensive season. However, his playing time will depend on whether he improves on defense... Also the Sharks signed Mark Bell from the Blackhawks, which came from the Havlat trade a while back. This was a must after Scott Thornton and Ekman signed with other teams, giving them just one other left winger.
And the biggest deal IMO was Hemsky getting resigned for 6 years with Edmonton. It might not be this year, or the next, but watch out. He's going to be a superstar in this league, once he gets into a rhythm...

He's going to be a superstar in this league, once he gets into a rhythm... Or learns to shoot the puck. That's what I was trying to get at, but I got lazy and didn't feel like saying that I guess. But yeah, I don't know if he's too scared or what, but he's got great moves... -------------------------- No real news to report... Michael Cammalleri getting resigned is the only thing of note. He dominated the AHL in 2004, getting 46 goals in a 103 point season at the age of just 22, and in his first year did decent with 55 points. He got by size-wise in the smaller AHL, but I don't know if he can hang with the big boys up here (he's a center in a wingers body, and he might get moved to the wing since Roenick, Conroy, and Demitra are already on the team and would push him to the 4th line). But he's one of the guys I think can make some good out of the new NHL and really thrive, even if he is a little out of position. It would be nice to see how his play-making skills work from the wing...

woot happy day... Sabres resigned Jason Pominville... and to me it looks like they overpaid on Toni Lydman, although he's really filling the hole left by Jay McKee, and has the potential to be the best worst-offensive-defensemen in the league...
And Detroit resigend Jason Williams, who broke out last season for nearly 60 points. He'll probably me moved to the wing, and in the 2 years he's there, Detroit should be able to tell if he can produce there, since there's no way a 5'9 guy can stay at center and be productive without having a special talent...
And a very sad LMAO to the Tornto Maple Leafs, who gave Wade Belak an extension. I honestly thought this was a joke at first, but nope, Toronto is smokin some hardcore pot...

actually I believe he played winger for the Blues back in the day. Check NHL 2003 and I am fairly confident he is listed as a RW. Whether or not he played C as well I dont really know cause I hate the blues. Personally I just dont think he is cut out to be a C.
