Let's get this thing going !
First on, Samsonov got traded to Chicago for Cullimore and Tony Salmelainen.
Considering the fact that we were going to buy out samsonov, its a great move for the habs since they will buy out the contract of Cullimore so we save some money here.
Chicago made a good move also trying to spark their offense up with Samsonov, well see...

have fun with Tony "The Worst Draft Pick in Oilers History" Salmelainen, I have my doubts about him ever playing for you.
Back on topic, me and some of the guys I work with were listening to a local sports radio show and this guy was going on and on about how he heard from a "source" that the Oilers were going to trade Shawn Horcoff and a 1st rounder to the Caps for Ovechkin (I know the most retarded rumor ever) so one of the guys phone into the radio show and called him out on it and the guy had nothing. It was one of the funniest things I have ever heard the guy was mumbling and trying to come up with something but he had nothing. Hilarious.

Flyers resign Nittimaki for two years, Chelios refuses to die and resigns for a year with the Wings, and the guy everyone jerks off to in Toronto (Mats Sundin) resigns for a year.
Sabres Unrestricted Free Agents: C Daniel Briere, C Chris Drury, D Teppo Numminen, RW Adam Mair, RW Michael Ryan, G Ty Conklin, C Dainius Zubrus, D Timo Helbling, D Mikko Lehtonen, G Adam Berkhoel.
I'm praying we resign Zubrus (yes, even though I thought getting him was the stupidest thing ever and completely dissed the guy time and time again), Numminen, and one of Briere/Drury.

The Bruins got rid of thier coach. It will be interesting to see who they get now.
+ they resigned Andrew Alberts, who isn't a bad defensemen

I am happy the Flyers re-signed Nittymaki. I think he will do great behind Biron. I just wish he would have opted for the surgery when Biron was acquired last season instead of waiting until the offseason.

The Flyers quest to trade Robert Esche enters Year 2...
With Drury likely to go to San Jose and Briere likely to resign, Philly should probably be targeting Devils center Scott Gomez, even if he is from a rival team... Brian Rafalski is another Devil who the Flyers should be looking to add, seeing how they desperately need to make up for their holes in the defense (the retards traded away their only good defensemen for garbage)...

Well Esche should have been traded last season. That was a huge mistake by Holmgren. If he was given an outright release, I think all fans would be okay with that.
I know they had the top targets of Briere, Drury, and Gomez. I would love to have Gomez just so the Devils don't have him. It would be quite awesome. Overall though, they need someone who can set up the goal. When Forseberg was healthy, it was a great first line. Forseberg setting it up, Gagne putting it in the back of the net, and Knuble was the gritty guy on the line.
As for defense, I don't know how many plans they have to that. I think they need some depth but they definitely need some better play out of the guys they have. It was sad to see what Joni Pitkanen did last season. Many Flyers fans thought he would have been much more productive.
I do think if they add a few guys they will be back in the playoff hunt. It was hard last year, that was only the 9th time they've missed the playoffs in their history. It sucked.

Centers! The Flyers NEED Centers. Defensemen are another priority, but they really don't have a true center on that team (minus Carter, who hasn't put up any good numbers yet). Richards and Umberger are much better on the wing, and they don't even have any after that. If they miss out on Gomez, they'll end up with similar results from last year...
Bruins are likely going to hire ex-Devils coach Claude Julien. I've always kind of liked Boston, even if they were a rival. I just always felt they were a good dark-horse to make the playoffs, especially this year with the Savard and Chara signings. Hopefully they can be more competitive and give the division five perennial playoff contenders...

The Bruins always start off shitty, get their heads out of their asses and come close to the playoffs, but then blow it at the end.
As a fan, I'm hoping that they can get in to the playoffs this year. The offense is decent, but I think the defense needs help. Tim Thomas is phenomenal some games, and bad others, but he went to University of Vermont so I like him.

It's not even that they started bad this year. Their record wasn't bad the first 30-40 games, it's just that the way the scheduling worked out, the Bruins had MUCH less games than everyone else, so it looked they were further back than they really were. Then once they played long stretches with little breaks to make up for the lack of games played, they couldn't handle the whole thing. It should be interesting to see what Boston is able to do this off-season, especially after having one of the better ones last year...

Flyers fans should be thrilled about that deal. Timmonen is quietly one of the top defenders in the game and Upshall is a good, young forward. They're definitely heading in the right direction.

I've been excited since they got Biron. It shows that they actually give a shit. This year might not be great, but I doubt we will be as low as last year.

It's pretty much just an add-on to the Forsberg deal. They gave up Forsberg and got Upshall, Parent, Timmonen, and Hartnell, and just traded back the draft pick they got. Upshall has been playing like a 2nd liner since he got to Philly (and he was supposedly supposed to be the "other guy" compared to Parent's potential), Parent is an excellent defensive prospect, Timmonen can step on any line on the defense and step up, and Hartnell gives them a little more depth.
I have a hunch that Pitkanen will be actively shopped, possibly even tonight during the draft. As much as I like his play, he was flat-out awful last year, and with all the guys they have added and will add in the up-coming weeks, someone needs to go...

I don't know if Joni will be the top guy on their list to move. Although Derian Hatcher is showing great spirit I still think they will try and move him. Joni has more upside in this NHL than Hatcher does.
