Am I the only person who goes to the theatre alone when I actually want to watch a movie? Na, I will. Actually, depending on my choice of person, I prefer to go alone when I watch a movie the first time.

this movie officially rocked my socks. if you haven't seen it stop reading cause I want to discuss a few things.
First off Heath Ledger's performance was the greatest villian since Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. He was so unbelievable that 5 minutes in I totally forgot that it was him. I found that the movie really portrayed the notion that joker only exists because Batman exists, he is Batman anti-thesis, everything that Batman tries to fight. This is really how comic book movies should be made, not like spiderman. They need to be dark, gritty, and realistic.
The only thing I wish they did was have Harvey Two-Face in the next movie instead of dying at the end. Eckhart is a great actor and not having his own movie to fully display his evil side wasn't a good decision. I would have had him just start to become Two-Face as the movie was drawing to a close and have the end where Joker reveals to Batman his "Ace in the hole". Two-Face is a great villian because he feels betrayed by Batman and feels that Batman can't understand the loss he has suffered (although obviously he does).
Other than that this movie rocked so hard and if Heath doesn't win an Oscar it is complete BS. I going to see it again on Thursday.

The Dent death was very open ended...and was the spoiler I mentioned earlier that got me. Nolan left that very open, so he can do whatever. If they kill him off, they did it in the last movie. If they bring him back, easy to say they just had a memorial for him. So yeah.

Christopher Nolan should not, and will not, make a third Batman film.

I think a movie about Dent wouldnt work unless another villan is involved.....or if they cut off Dark Knight shortly after Dent turned into 2 f-ace.

thats what I wanted have the movie end with dent becoming 2 face and batman discovering Joker's "ace in the hole" obviously now that he is dead having dent in the next movie wouldn't make sense. I am just concerned about which villian will be in the next film cause after Joker, Scarcrow, Rah's Al Gul, and Two Face the other ones pretty much suck.
and keeps why shouldn't nolan do the third one?
Edit: I guess the one they could use is Bane, the only villain to truly break Batman physically in Batman: Knightfall. This could also lead to Robin becoming a character (although I never like Robin at all) cause in Knightfall Batman gets an apprentice who is much darker and more sinister than Batman, basically someone who can fight fire with fire.

Because there is no humanly way to top this. Just got back from a second viewing and I'm even MORE blown away. I love the tone of the entire film, I love the story, I love that the battle between good and evil isn't so black and white. That said, the ending was up to interpretation. I think they held a memorial for Dent and had him locked in Arkum Asylum to hide his new persona from the public, which would obviously lead to the theme of a third film. Also, I keep hearing rumors that the accountant (the guy Joker wants dead in 60 mins) is going to be in a third film as the Riddler. I'm not saying I wouldn't go see a third, but there is no way to top this. Not even close.

Christopher Nolan should not, and will not, make a third Batman film. Should not...probably He'll make a third one. The studios want a third one. I'm thinking call it Batman and almost have a fugative type thing going on. The idea is the last person Wayne has to defeat is Batman himself. So you deal with him trying to go beyond that. Then The Riddler is starting to kill people, but you never actually see him. He gives clues as to who he murders next and clues to save them. You don't see him, until the very end. That's the only way I see the Riddler working.

My post will probably have some sort of spoiler in it, just warning
He shouldn't do it because:
1) He just put out what is, and probably will be for some time, the best superhero film to date 2) He doesn't have to worry about someone else stepping it and directing the series because Bale has made it clear that he wouldn't continue if Nolan wasn't on board. 3) He's a VERY talented director who'd probably like to tackle some other big projects.
Look, I'm not saying it won't happen, money dominates the industry. BUT, look at the way this film ends. They leave it very open-ended with the Joker, including his monologue about how they will always be doing this, clearly insinuating that they're going to always be battling each other. Furthermore, there is no resolution to his situation, he is just left for the police. They then finish by killing Harvey Dent (though I can see how someone can not think he's dead), effectively cutting that from carrying over to another film.
If Nolan wanted to prolong this series, following the Ledger death, he could've called the guys back in and re-shot the final scene with Two-Face, leaving it clearly more open-ended and able to be continued. Instead, the only real villain continuation left to the viewer is The Joker, who will likely not be recast for another 20 years at best. I think the decision not to refilm the ending to provide a segue into Batman 3, and the inclusion of Bale's monologue at the end of the movie, are two very big signals that Nolan was not looking to the future for another film, but was set on creating a movie that would be the standard all superhero films will be held to. His hyper-realistic take on the story itself, his creation of one of the most frightening villains in film history, and his take on the realistic morality of a supposed superhero were all incredibly crafted, and I really don't see him coming back to this.

Should they have not made Godfather 2 because godfather is considered the greatest movie of alltime? Just because you can't top something doesn't mean that the next one can't be great as well.
And Jack's suggestion about the fake memorial makes sense because it would preserve Dent's image and not force Batman to kill him. And the reason people speculate that the accountant guy is the riddler is because of his name Mr. Reese (mysteries) but hes not a cunning or clever enough character to pull off the riddler.
Oh and for the record Bale, Caine, and Oldman are signed on for another movie FWIW although Bale has said he doesn't want anyone else to direct but Nolan

Am I the only person who goes to the theatre alone when I actually want to watch a movie? I go to films by myself all the time, its the only time I get some piece and quiet and not have to worry about the other person. So i can actually enjoy the film. As far as a third film... *SPOILERS* Nolan has said IF he does sign on to make a third film it will be following the graphic novels of "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" Both with two-face as a main villain. I think the ending goes as this. Joker gets put into Arkham, Two-Face is alive but Harvey isn't, the memorial service was for Harvey, but Two-Face is in Arkham. I could definitely see The Riddler coming in as a Narcissistic Zodiac/Se7en Type Killer that uses more of the media to leave clues for the law. Gordon then turns to Batman for help and then Riddler helps two-face break out of Arkham and they run their own agendas but still start to reek havoc and chaos on gotham. The Riddler or (ugh..) Catwoman are the only villains in the comic that aren't far-fetched, super powered and are worthy of Nolan's genius. Mad-Hatter and maybe Holliday would work, Penguin would be cool if they used him in a mob-gangster type but don't make him a big character but maybe connect him with Talia-Al Ghul (a new love interest for Bruce?) for a future 4? who knows. I hope Nolan does another one because he has completely changed the comic/graphic novel/superhero genre, and is a genius director. I only wish Heath didn't die because a.) hes one fucking great ass actor(sorry bama but I had to), b.) He is the Joker and no one can ever be The Joker c.) Because I want more joker in the future films. I miss heath.. my #1b favorite actor ever.

not neccessarily robin I was just saying in the novel Knightfall he gets an apprentice who is much darker and sinister and less moral than Batman. obviously thats not robin but I think that would be an interesting storyline. But yeah Robin is kinda gay
BTW who else thinks the Watchmen could be really good especially with the guy who did 300 directing. If it is anywhere near as good as that it could be interesting.

The Dark Knight pulled in the largest non-holiday Monday ticket sales of all time. Even with holidays added in, it's 22 something million on Moday was the 4th best ever. It has already passed up Spiderman 3's tally for it's entire first week.
Any doubts there will be a third after this kind of money coming in?
Oh and The Joker: I was blown away by Ledger's performance. He's the reason I want to see it again. That good. I want some time to really scope how good he was, because he's being pumped up so much right now. I think it'll end up standing as one of the gold standard roles that everyone looks to as greatness. Time will tell that story however.

**SPOILER**
When The Joker shows up at the meeting all of the crime bosses are having, when Lau is on the television talking to them, does The Joker have any connection to Lau and the money at that point? I don't think so but my friend is trying to tell me that The Joker had Lau working for him from the beginning.

Movies are more about the story, characters, ect. I didn't really like 300 all that much (glad to see I'm not alone) and it was a beautiful film in terms of the way it was shot. I can appreciate that kind of movie, but unless Watchmen is bringing in a good story behind it...I probably won't give two shits about it.
