Second: That is funny to hear an OSU fan talk about academics. On their site, they don't even talk about the players academics at all. Yea, its sad to see the Michigan players not have demanding academic schedules but almost every other major college football program has it. So really, don't say stuff about a program when OSU's program isn't smelling like roses in this category. Uh, we have had 40 academic all-americans all-time, compared to Michigan's 26. In addition we've had two players win the equivalent of the academic Heisman, one of which as short of a time ago as 2003 (Craig Krenzel). Has Michigan has a football player awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University? No. Your barking up the wrong tree if you think your school is better than Ohio State in terms of academics for student athletes. If your just going regular students, than yeah, Michigan has the edge and is much more prestigous in that regard. But the awards and accolades our football players have racked up compared to yours in the classroom all-time, tell the story.

Wow, are we seriously comparing Academic All-Americans now?
Mich/OSU rivalry hit a new low.

*Bama please don't ban me for this as I think it fits the situation*
Who gives a flying fuck about academics? Honestly, do you follow the schools for what they do in the classroom? Because I sure as hell don't.

I wouldn't start comparing stats with just your evidence with Academic All Americans because that doesn't show what classes or major they are taking.
An Academic All American are players with a 3.0 (or better) so that just means that OSU have smarter General Education Majors then Michigan, congrats on that one.
My point to my comment wasn't to prove that Michigan's program is any better then OSU at all (I reread my post and I said nothing about Michigan's being wonderful either). If you really read my post, I was sad to see that a majority of players on our roster are General Education but I was quick to remark that you can't judge Michigan when I bet you anything OSU has a lot as well (well over 80%; I'm guessing on that). That's just the reality of NCAA football that most of the players will take a easier subject to focus on football but also get a degree in the end. It's a rarity to see a Steve Young who could become a lawyer if he wanted to when he was done with football (In 1994, Young graduated from Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School with a Juris Doctor).
We really need to stop this useless banter about worthless information, except the fact Lloyd got the award, and worry about the game on the field. Both schools have their high points in academics since not only athletes attend the school.
I really didn't want to say anything because I knew you would think I was attacking you and OSU when saying my comments when really, you have been attacking Michigan with ruthlessness and disrespectful behavior since probably you entered this forum. I know I can't make you see reason because that would be like the Lions winning a Super Bowl (that's for my Detroit Fans). I don't care that you hate Michigan because we don't like you either but I would never disrespect you if I saw you or hate you as a person. I think that's what makes me different from you.

I respect Michigan, I just hate the f****** school more than anything. And how the hell have I exactly been the one attacking Michigan? Most of my posts about Michigan have been responding to rude and disrespectful posts from Maize and JTR about Ohio State. And I haven't always been attacking them since I entered this forum. Hell, you have barely been active during my time on this forum. I was a respectful and classy fan towards UM and everybody else until Jan. 8th, when I started taking shit from every damn fanbase in the country because of one game. Just because I hate your school doesn't mean I disrespect you. Hell, ask Chis, even Maize. I may hate Michigan, but I respect them. Way to turn a simple back and forth thread into a personal attack with one paragraph there, thanks buddy.

Well then I'm sorry to have changed the thread topic and I didn't think I was attacking you and since you feel I was, I'm sorry for that as well. Back on subject: Even though Lloyd did get the award, I would have loved to have seen Pinkel or even Zook get the award but I wouldn't know what they do outside of the football field. Oh well...

That was really good. I just hope the kids listen and actually try and finish their degree (even if they are only taking General Education )... Thanks for posting that because I didn't have a chance to see that after the game. Only a few more games left and I hope we get more games like the Michigan vs. Florida game. Intense and entertaining! -cheers

I have a question for the Michigan/OSU fans:
Do you guys know why you hate each other? Seriously do you have a legitimate reason for hating each other? Or, as I suspect, do you hate each other because you are told to do so by the media and your peers.
I compare this alot to the gangs in LA the Crips and the Bloods. Most have no idea why the hate each other so much other than the fact they live a few blocks from each other and are so-called "rivals".

You definately picked the wrong question.
The hatred between us has been there since the 1800s. It all started with the Toledo border war. The hatred towards each other all began during this dispute. Little blood was spilled over the confilct, but it set the foundation of hatred.
Ohio State and Michigan were both their respective states' flagship institutions, so it's only naturally that the hatred exists between them. Ohio State began to hate Michigan with white hot intensity when they were the best team in college football in the early 1900s, and Michigan started to hate us with equal intensity when we started to beat them.
Bo and Woody, well, without them, this rivalry would not be the same. Their 10 year war from 1969 through 1978 was the greatest period of any rivalry in the history of college football in terms of national importance, but more importantly in terms of hatred. Coaches are fired for losing this game. Ask John Cooper how important it is, hell, ask Lloyd Carr because this single game may have tarnished his legacy.
Some of the greatest games in NCAA history have come through this rivalry. 1950 Snow Bowl, 1969 game (Changed the direction of the Big Ten), the tie in '73, 1995 when Biakabudouche ran for 313 yards, and more recently 2006 when we won the game of the century.
In Ohio, they teach you three things from birth: 1) You live in a cornfield. 2) You will love Ohio State. 3) You will hate everything that has to do with that godforsaken state up North, and don't ever mention the name of that damn state or you'll make Woody roll over in his grave.
The atmosphere at an Ohio State-Michigan game is unmatched in college football. I went to the 2002 meeting, and I have never been to a greater game, in any sport (And I've been to plenty). When our two teams meet on that fateful third saturday in November, you lock the doors, strap yourself in, and get ready to watch the greatest ass-kicking fiesta in the world.
So, yeah, we know why we hate each other. Way to make a snap judgement there buddy.

Cooljay, it is just learned behavior. People back in the day hated each other, then the kids learn the same thing and the process continues. I can relate, Alabama and Auburn is the most intense rivalry when it comes to the fans in the country. Not as important as Michigan/Ohio State IMO, but I would bet they would be surprised at how intense that game is.
The thing is, you just learn that they are the bad guys and are to be hated. I hate Auburn, even though they play my favorite style of football (well until they started this spread eagle crap). It just so happens, I was taught by my dad that Auburn was evil and we should hate them simply for supporting that cow college on the other side of the state. I don't know why I hate Auburn, other than I'm suppose to. The same goes with Tennessee.
At least with LSU, I know why I hate them. ;D
