I wanted Nabokov or Giguere all the way...Belfour was probably a last resort.
What this tells me is the asking price for a Nabokov was too steep for Holland's liking.
I can only pray he has one good year left in him.

What is with Detroit signing fossilized goalies with baggage? First you get Hasek, who is just weird in general and can't stay on the ice, to Belfour who is even weirder? Good luck, Motown. Actually, I hate Detroit. Nix that.

Zdeno Chara is the newest Boston Bruin. This ought to be the first thing to make Bstn happy. Imagine the position they'd be in if they didn't trade Joe Thornton or Samsonov.

Biron does want to be traded, however, I'm praying he stays put. If teams learned anything this year, it's that you need a solid backup goalie. At the beginning of last year we had 3 solid goalies. We're down to 2, and losing Biron would give us just 1. However, if you were interested in trading Legace in a S&T for Biron straight up, I'd take it gladly...

This probably isnt in here, but the FLyers signed teh best goalie in the league, my favorite player Antero NIITYMAKI to a 1 year deal. Screw Robert Esche, NIITY is the future

Goaltending is the least of Philly's problems.

I don't see how you can completely bash Esche. Nittymaki right now is just as good as Esche, if not a tad inferior. Esche is 28, Nittymaki is 26. So it's not like Nittymaki is this real young talented goalie compared to this old veteran. If the rest of the Flyers weren't playing so poorly in that Buffalo series, you'd definitely be singing a different tune.
And a 1 year contract with the Flyers? Isn't that just asking to be traded some time next year. Esche seems safe to me.

Ha alright I got ya... but Philly right now probably has the best goalie situation in the league. Esche and Nitty are a nice combo. All Philly should do is just start one of them, and play them until they lose, and then let the next one come in, and do the same thing. It's eery how similar their numbers were last year...

Yeah, the thing I didnt like was that they had no set rotation really. One goalie would play okay, and they'd leave him in sometimes, or take him out sometimes

Well it's official... Brednan Shanahan is now a New York Ranger...
I don't know if I'm ecstatic about that if I'm a Rangers fan... I do like the fact that they went after a winger, seeing how Jagr and Stratka were the only major point producers from the wing, and it does move Rucinsky back where he belongs on the 3rd line.
On the other hand, for $4M, you hope to be getting more than a now inconsistent player who lacks the same energy he once had, and can only score in spurts...

He wanted to go to Boston - then they hired Dave Lewis.
I'm not at all shocked.

I am happy we got Nittymaki signed. I think one of these two goalies may be a bargaining chip to try and get some help on defense and possibly at center.

I am happy we got Nittymaki signed. I think one of these two goalies may be a bargaining chip to try and get some help on defense and possibly at center. Definitely. It's great that they are loaded at goalie now, but the Hatcher signing backfired when they found out you can't be physical and losing Johnnson pretty much ruins them defensively. Right now I really don't know where to look for defensemen, but maybe something good will happen at the trade deadline. And yeah, with Forsberg hurt, the Flyers look very weak at center. As strange as it sounds coming out of my mouth, for the first time in a long time, the Flyers don't look like a Cup contender, and not even an ECF contender. They'll still make the playoffs, most likely as a 6 or 7, but that will be it. Of course, there's plenty of time before you have to worry about that, and a lot can happen. And Avs fans will agree when I say that you only need Forsberg for the playoffs to see him work his magic...
