Wow. A lot of draft picks in that deal.
BTW, my dad just got 4 free tickets to a Bruins game vs. Atlanta in late March. 7th row behind the net. I'm pumped because the game will be huge for both teams trying to make the playoffs.

Atlanta gave up ALOT for a guy who isn't really a top line winger anymore. they better hope it pays off.

We traded Craig Rivet and a 5th round draft pick in 2008 for a first round pick and a nowhere from San Jose. We just robbed them lol. Rivet is like one of the worst defenseman in the league... oh well *** the nowhere is not a nowhere actually. He's a good young defenseman with a lot of potential. Josh Gorges, 22 year old, a good defense with offensive skillz nice !

so have u officially given up on the playoff then or what? Just wondering because I have more or less given up on the Oilers after an absolutely afwul 4-1 loss to the Wild.
Although I have pretty much lost all hope I truly believe that under no circumstances (unless an absolutely outrageously good offer arises and symth agrees to return to edmonton after the season) should the Oilers trade Ryan Smyth. He is the heart and soul of not only the team but also of Edmonton. Trading him would be blasphemy.

yeah I think Smith should stay a Oilers. The Habs needs some fresh air, we've had the same team since like 95-96 with guys like Souray Rivet and Koivu and we havent gone anywhere. The Rivet trade is a pretty good trade for us and I heard it was the first part of another transaction.... we'll see tomorrow or tuesday

It already happened... Tkachuk to Atlanta for... Glen Metropolit, 1st RD pick, 3rd Rd pick, and 2nd in 08. and if Tkachuk signs with Atlanta after this season St. Louis gets the thrashers 1st in 08 also. Great move for the Blues. Best part is that I really think Tkachuk's going to come back to St. Louis anyways. Hell, maybe for their sake he stays with Atlanta for the draft pick. It opens up a lot of doors. Atlanta is REALLY desperate now. Their offense has been cooling off since that early October/November surge and a weak, shallow defense core and meh goaltending has caught up with them. Zhitnik isn't going to determine the fate of this team, nor is Tkachuk. It's going to come down to whether they play it out all 60 minutes or not. Sure the top three guys in Kozlov, Hossa, and Kovalchuk are having good seasons, but the rest of the offense is really weak even with Tkachuk now and nobody is really stepping up on defense.

Rumor has it Philadelphia has traded Kyle Calder to Chicago for a pick and a player. Chicago then turned around and traded Calder to Detroit. I don't know if there is any truth behind it, just caught it on the Eagles Message Board.

Detroit gets Kyle Calder (Philly) Chicago gets: Jason Williams (Detroit) Philly gets Lasse Kukkonen (Chicago)
That's the basics of it. Wouldn't be surprised to see cash/draft picks/fillers involved as well...
Hopefully Calder can get back on track with some heavy talent around him. Kukkonen isn't bad, especially by the Flyers standards, but I wouldn't expect to see much out of him with the change of scenery. Williams has slown down since last year's point explosion, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a rebound even if he is playing for the Blackhawks...

and nobody is really stepping up on defense. Thats because Atlanta has a whole bunhc of nobodys on thier defense... seriously not one big or very talented player.. thier best defenseman is Niclas Havlid or Garnet Exelby... enough said...

Well, Buffalo was a bit busy today.
They dealt G Martin Biron to Philly for a 2nd round pick, then turned around and dealt a 5th rounder to Columbus for G Ty Conklin.
Gotta say i'm disappointed. But I guess getting something for Biron before losing him to free agency is better than nothing. Just thought we could've used him for some sort of depth.

Also, Florida dealt W Gary Roberts to Pittsburgh for D Noah Welch.
And not sure if its been noted here but the Caps dealt Richard Zednik to the Isles for a 2nd rounder.

Everytime I come back to ESPN, a new trade is released...
Bill Guerin is telling reporters that he's been dealt to San Jose in a 3-team deal, but nothing's been confirmed or denied at this point.

Also, rumor has it that Phoenix tough guy George Laraque has waived his no-trade clause to OK a deal to Pittsburgh. Again, details have yet to be released.
